About this deal

No words! I literally have no words big enough or worthy of explaining how unbelievably amazing this book is…. She nailed it with this book. I felt like I was on the rollercoaster of emotions with these two characters. 🎢

If you’re a fan of second chance romance books like me……. This is a MUST read. Available on KU TODAY! (10/5) She lived with her Aunt Ashley and Uncle Landon, and their kids. Her cousins, Cole, Devin and Janessa. In every possible way this family had taken her in as one of their own. Sometimes she even thought of her Aunt Ashley as her mom. Because her aunt loved her that much. I was given an Advanced Reader Copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. If you want my honest opinion, go buy this RIGHT NOW.

In alternating chapters between past and present we get to watch Brynn and Johnny’s story unfold. The past is sweetly romantic, with all of the wonder and hope of young romance, but dramatic as we learn about the difficulties of Johnny’s life. In the present, I could absolutely understand Brynn’s anger at his sudden reappearance, her frustration at his refusal to tell her why he left the way he did, and the painful re-opening of old wounds as she continues to grieve the loss of the boy she loved and the dreams that they once shared. But it seems that Johnny, full of remorse, still hasn’t quite let go either. It was just so wonderfully fluffy, sweet and adorable, and you'll fall in love with these two and little baby Benson as you read. Tony Weston is Ellie’s father-in-law. He also happens to be a movie star; one of the few ex-pat Poms’s to have made it big in Hollywood. Ellie and Tony are keeping each other afloat since Jamie’s sudden death – they’re a tight unit bought together by their love for Jamie and caught asunder by their grief. Just as Ellie starts moving on with her life, Tony meets someone new, and he has never felt such an instant connection. Fifty-five is never too late to find true love.

This was just such a sweet book. I adored these two together. And little Benson was so adorable. I also absolutely loved Toby’s crazy family! This isn’t very long, I read it in one day. It made my heart happy. The book is set in two times, when they were teenagers and the present time. Both sides are necessary to understand what happens and why Johnnie is so broken. It’s super slow burn to the point of frustration but it’s also relentlessly angsty and romantic. The family and friends and school environment that surrounds the story is wonderful, it felt like it was full of music notes and a loving vibe. I felt the love from Johnnie all the time but it felt constrained by a terrible secret that only comes out in bits and pieces. I wanted to slap him silly and make him tell all, because it was hurting Brynn so much. One of the ways Aunt Ashley proved it was how she had set up Amy’s room. In the corner was a chair that faced the window. So Amy could sit and talk to God about her family in heaven—any time she wanted. Next to the chair, against the wall, was a bookcase full of everything that reminded Amy of her childhood.

From the beginning, there is no question Johnny is troubled and flawed, but you cannot help but root for him in every chapter. 🫶🏼 He has so many layers and it was so sweet to see Brynn’s never ending patience with him. She was truly the hero in this story! 🩷 The story is one that is an experience, deeply moving and it left me feeling so much. I could keep telling my favorite parts and raving about this book….. I think if you enjoy emotional, smart storytelling you should dive headfirst into this amazing book. Johnny is ‘that guy’. The one with the magnetism and charm for days, everyone wants to be in his orbit. But underneath there is so much more to this enigmatic guy and he chooses Brynn, the sassy, beautiful band geek to be the one he bares his soul to. They have an instant connection, wonderful, playful banter…an enviable relationship. However so far it's not at all a serious book full of angst and such. I'm still giggling over the first time the hero (or I assume he's the hero or why else would he just pop into the story at that point)Zach gets a glimpse of Ellie on the street (she doesn't see him, so its all one sided longing on his part - foreshadowing!): Having said ALL that, just because I didn’t like this book at all, doesn’t mean somebody else won’t, so it’s worth giving a try!!
