About this deal

It is very rarely that I choose to read a book without knowing anything at all about it. Since I don't get much reading time per month, I like to have some idea of the books I read and also whether they have been well-received. Liar was an exception. I had no idea what this book was about, except that the protagonist, Micah, who is also the narrator, is a liar. Funnily, that is all you need to know. Anything else is a spoiler. Overall, I will recommend this book. I wasn't sure if this idea of a liar as a narrator would work at all. But I would say it did. The concept is very unique, and I found myself eager to know how truthful Micah was in the end. I wasn't wow'ed by this book, but I think the audio book had more to do with that. However, I wasn't very impressed by the ending, and Liar left me with a few questions and some confusing conclusions about what the truths and the lies were. Ben comes across as very weak, but he is still grieving and is lost in the lust of finding someone new.

In addition, I felt like the reason behind everything got seriously convoluted, but still left a plot point hanging. Things go wrong out there though and when Remmi confronts her mother she still refuses to give any answers. Was Remmi’s mother trying to sell one of her siblings to the stranger? And then when her mother doesn’t return home sixteen year old Remmi finds herself with a baby and no where to go. And you know what? You'll love it. You'll be anxious to see what she's lied to you next. You'll feel this drive to keep reading on, to swallow the book whole just to see what was a figment of Micah's imagination, what was a figment of yours and how the hell did she convince you, the people around her, and even herself that such an absurd thing had come to pass. The beauty of it is that lying or telling the truth, you'll want to believe Micah because just like everybody else, you want it to be the truth.

Liar Liar: An unbelievably gripping and heart-pounding Liar Liar: An unbelievably gripping and heart-pounding

A book has just been published all about Didi’s life. Is She still alive? Remmi starts her own investigation to look for her mother. Is the truth closer to home than you think!! As for the character work? Well, it wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't good. I never got a decent grasp on any of the characters outside of Micah. And since she's terribly unreliable, you never know if she's lying about them. Towards the end, with the introduction of Pete, I started to skim. I didn't want to read a murder mystery. I wanted to read an examination of a compulsive liar. And since most of her lies are stupid at best, well, what's the point? This book could've been so much more, and there are hints that point to a deeper, darker novel. But it never goes there. Twenty years ago Remmi was a teenager who got it in her mind she was going to sneak out one night but when her mother comes in Remmi hides in her mother’s old Cadillac in the garage. What Remmi didn’t expect was for her mother to load her newborn twins int he Cadillac and take off late at night while she was hiding in the trunk. Remmi Storm is 14 when her mother and 2 half siblings disappear. 20 years later someone who maybe Didi Storm (Remmi's mother) jumps out a hotel window. Dozens of characters, dozens of story lines muddy the waters of this book, trying to resolve the issue of what really happened to Remmi's mom. And I never felt close to the characters. I just didn't really care who the bad guy(s) were and what happened to Didi.Perkins, Eleanor (31 October 2019). "Fans of ITV's Liar to be kept waiting until 2020 for season 2". KentOnline . Retrieved 13 November 2019. Larbalestier was born and raised in Sydney, Australia. She now alternates living between Sydney and New York City. Who is the liar?? Ben is being torn between his mom and his new love. What is he to think? Who is he to believe?

I felt anger toward Amber and deep hurt for Judi, intensifying as Amber continued embedding herself into their lives. I don't know if I've ever read a book that has evoked such a visceral response. I absolutely hated Amber! A true sociopath. I actually had difficulty reading it because of my pure loathing for her. My anxiety level was peaking as the book went on. And of course, I couldn't stop reading! It was really confusing because she's a liar and I can't trust her perspective. That has to be one of the most ignorant things I've ever heard. You're assuming anyone else's perspective is trustworthy. That's like saying "hey this guy says he didn't physically assault that girl, and I know he's not a liar, so his perspective is probably true/honest." Or more accurately, it's like saying your history books are 100% on the ball about what "actually happened". Winston Churchill once said that "history is written by the victors". Now, a non-pathological liar POV may be a little more accurate, but all memory is subjective to our own small additions and alterations. Just the other day I was convinced I invented leg warmers.Micah is a fascinating character and a strong protagonist who easily carries the story. She's frank and mature and a refreshing character after all the "good", no-swearing types who populate YA - there are many kinds of teenager, but I tend to think that the smart-mouthed, non-virginal ones get ignored: they certainly don't often get the limelight, when they definitely should. Judi was a likeable person. I admired how close her grown son Ben was to her, and of course, she helped him look after his two sons after his wife died. Cleaned house, did the washing and ironing and fed them. So, I read Liar, knowing the secret. And, honestly, I'm not that impressed. Larbalestier is a talented writer, but the secret isn't that amazing. Neither are Micah's lies. Even with Fight Club, which I didn't really like, I was impressed with Palahnuik's big reveal.

It would be pretty easy to dislike such an unreliable, unfriendly narrator. Wrong again. Larbalestier makes that impossible. Liar or not, Micah is intriguing and oddly likable. A lot of people have asked the author what really happened, but Larbalestier has refused to tell. I think what really happened is beside the point. What's fascinating is the journey Micah takes you on, the two narratives with their very different endings. In fact, I don't think even Larbalestier knows which one is the "truth". I don't think it was her intention for there to be a discernible truth. Wow what an amazing roller coaster of a ride with twists that will not disappoint and keep you hooked. This psychological thriller is based around the workings of a family and the family dynamic. When I first started reading the mystery/thriller genre I always thought that a thriller based around a family set-up would be very boring - no killing, kidnapping etc and mainly mind games between a family. I now know that these mind games and psychological manipulation can be just as riveting as any other thriller novel. LIAR explores the question of how far an individual would go to protect their family and loved ones - would you kill for them if you had to?This is an interesting, if disturbing, peek into a young messed up mind. As a student of psychology, it's fascinating to me because it shows just how far the mind goes before it connects with a coping device that it can comfortably live with. Considering how young Micah's mind is (and possibly how young she was when she started killing at 12) it's especially chilling. Here's an interesting exercise: exchange all the instances of "werewolf" in the text with "killer" the next time you read the book. Micah is a pathological liar who is dealing with her boyfriend's sudden death. The book is divided into three parts, Part One: Telling the Truth, Part Two: Telling the True Truth and Part Three: The Actual Real Truth. It's a big guessing game from start to finish.
