About this deal

Inspired by both classic and modern designs, our range of stair spindles offers supreme quality and style versatility for any stairway and home. Our range of iron and steel stair spindles have been handcrafted from the finest metals and are available in a variety of designs and finishes, whether you’re looking for basket, twist or plain designs. Like our number one choice, this particular paint has a satinwood finish but being from Dulux’s Trade range means it’s going to be far superior in durability and quality than typical retail paint so is likely to last a good few years before needing a repaint. My favourite thing about Crown’s satin is that it’s actually more like an eggshell in finish (the white is beautiful) but has the durability of satin. So the sheen is quite low but the durability is decent, especially for banisters. Being cheap obviously helps! Premium Wolf, Coyote Faux Fur Christmas Tree Skirt Or Garland - Swag - Fireplace Mantle Decor - Decoration - Holiday Ornament , Made in USA Even though it was a rough project for Josh, I LOVE the way it turned out. I especially loved that he took this on while I was away.

The picture above is actually before the before…the original staircase when we first moved in. It’s fun to see all the stages it’s been through! In a narrow hallway where the stairs are framed by walls, as opposed to open spindles, it's best to wall-mount a slim handrail. To save valuable space choose one dominant wall to place the banister on. Also position it practically to assist journeys both up and down the stairs. This project took 3 coats (2 coats was almost good enough, but not quite in some spots..). Before and After This is perhaps the most important thing to consider when you’re painting your banisters. Sure, we all want that perfect look but it’ll mean nothing if in a few month’s time your paint is starting to scratch off or fade. I’m going to try hard to keep this G rated. The concept is simple, start with the underside of each banister then move to the sides and finish with the top of the banister. So how do you know which paint is best? Of course, you could just rely on product descriptions and hope for the best but in our opinion, we’ve found a better way to decide. Keep collections to yourself or inspire other shoppers! Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. After I was done painting the banister I had to face facts. Even though the zebra patterned spindles were growing on me, I didn’t think Mique would like them so I took the plunge. I painted all 228 sides of the spindles (ask me how I know how many sides there are). It was by far the most time consuming step but it made the job look a lot better. As mentioned above, durability is key when it comes to banister paint as thee banister is one of the most touched objects in any home. You’ll need a paint that can withstand frequent traffic and there’s no doubt that Johnstone’s Aqua is able to. If you want more light throughout your home, then consider eliminating your wood balusters for glass panels. Glass panels on a staircase make your living space look larger, cleaner and more chic. Although, you should be prepared for extra cleaning if you have young children or an especially slobbery pup. Glass panels won’t be too difficult to clean if you follow these glass and window cleaning tips!

There’s something calming about having a white scheme. It’s a blank canvas you can add to and change up whether it’s with cushions, plants and flowers' Our favourite feature of the paint is it’s durability and this was echoed by professional decorator Phil Hann who said this when we asked him why he chose Johnstone’s Aqua: The old adage “less is more” may be one to live by in your staircase makeover. Instead of repainting or rebuilding unique railings and balusters, opt for unembellished ones. Installing posts horizontally with wide boards or metal pipe adds character while maintaining a clean and classic look. Renewing your banisters in this fashion would be great for freshening up your home or giving your century-old home some contemporary simplicity. We think these 13 old adages still hold up for DIYers – do you? There’s been a number of times where I’ve gone to a job where I’m penned in to paint interior woodwork and a common issue I see is paint drips that have dried on banisters (especially if my client isn’t a painter and has painted them theirselves). Crown’s non-drip satin has the perfect combination of consistency and drying time so even for amateur painters, this isn’t really an issue you’ll face.
