About this deal

If you’re making the switch to a wax-based lubricant, the same rules as above apply: Clean and degrease your chain first. But it’s even more important when making this switch, since the oil lube and wax lube won’t mix well together, so you want your chain to be completely oil-free before making the transition. (Even if you’re starting with a new chain, clean and degrease it, since new chains come coated in heavy grease.) It's much easier than oil-based chain lubricants - there's no longer and need to use a degreaser after each ride and re-apply wax! Does Squirt Wax work in the winter?

I'm now up to 150 miles on the original application, including rides in all weather and a deliberate 20-second soaking of the chain with a garden hose to see if I could shift it. That was 50 miles ago, and the chain is still smooth and quiet. Despite releasing All-Conditions, Wet and Indoor lubricants this year, the All Conditions lube is closest to the previous UFO drip in performance but is now white instead of grey. The CeramicSpeed bottle has a 'pea' inside to help mix the lubricant, the only lube to have this. Application is also easy with a very fine nozzle. Squirt are not a new name on the UK cycling scene, nor is their chain lube a wholly unknown product.Once you’ve done that, take a clean rag and wipe down any excess lube before heading out the door. Don’t skip this step or you’ll instantly start to collect grime. Chain wax is more efficient, easier to maintain, and less likely to leave oily marks on your clothes and calves when cycling. On the other hand, some cyclists might have experience using actual wax, which provides the same smooth and quiet riding experience without as much grime. Originally, waxing a chain required a labor-intensive wax melting process (and the use of a slow-cooker or saucepan). While it was cumbersome, the results couldn’t be matched by oil-based lubricants. Note - I no longer recommend Squirt Chain Wax - and instead recommend you try Molten Speed Wax. Read more about it here! Why Use Wax Chain Lubricant

After a day of heavy snow, sleet, hail and everything else a Scottish Spring day bring I finished it with my f with a sunny rise out to Loch an Eilein. Wet lube works fine in the winter but come the summer it can get a coating of dust like sherbet on a Dib Dab. That’s no good at all for the best mountain bike drivetrains and groupsets. Traditionally, you switch to dry lube at this point, only to have a wet spell or a lingering old puddle render your chain dry as a bone. This article fails in one major area: no review of hot wax treatments. you may not agree that the work is worth the performance and protection but hot wax treatments are part of the scene and deserve space in this conversation. I’ve been using Squirt since last autumn and to be honest it’s brilliant, lasted as long as I did at WEMBO at Fort William in October and that was anything but dry, got a ridiculous work out at HtN VI the other week an the shifting was still bang on. The downside to wax lubes is they take a bit more initial work to apply and maintain. Before the initial application, you’ll need to make sure any factory grease or old lube has been removed and get the chain as clean as possible. The process also takes longer, it's advisable to apply these lubricants the night before a ride ideally. Should I use wet or dry lube? Alternatively, chain cleaners like the Park Tool Chain Gang kit often get it “clean enough” without having to remove it. The kit comes with a cassette cleaning tool and degreaser, too.
