About this deal

But he is soon pulled into the dark twists and turns of this home invasion gone wrong, vowing to find the men responsible.

Outback by Patricia Wolf | Waterstones

As the number of days since the couple’s disappearance climbs, DS Walker is joined by Rita’s older sister. The location is hostile, it’s not a place for the uninitiated who are unused to the heat and the dust and the absolute dryness of the air. It’s this comradeship around which the story is built and is stronger for and I enjoyed the way their friendship developed and grew. Soon enough, he is made a deputy and requested to help in the investigation of a gang-style murder of Matt Monroe, a notorious drug dealer. Most of the villains from the first instalment played minor roles in this book, and we received no further insight into the leak at the top—the person who is manipulating both the police and the drug dealers.

When two young German backpackers, Berndt and Rita, vanish from the area, he finds himself unofficially on the case.

Patricia Wolf | Goodreads Paradise by Patricia Wolf | Goodreads

This time he is in the Gold Coast recuperating after getting shot a few times, and again stumbles into the same organised crime ring he came across in no one. As a visiting lecturer for a serious crime and drugs training program for police officers in Queensland, he is sent to Queensland Gold Coast-based Surfer’s Paradise on a temporary basis. Not much mystery or surprise in two parallel stories but they are gripping enough to keep you interested in how they are resolved.Thought the ending was a tad predictable, but I enjoyed the narrative and plot so much that I didn’t mind. But when word comes in that the backpackers have gone missing in the area, he’s asked to take a look and help out the local police, acting in a family liaison capacity. Patricia Wolf is a mystery and thriller novelist that is best known for the “DS Walker Thriller” series of novels. With multiple new and previously introduced characters, Wolf then delivers a satisfying, way above-average police procedural full of interesting characters and plots and does well in breathing life into her characters – even the villains. Together, Lucas and Barbara manage to put together a reasonable investigation while also forging a friendship upon which each could trust and depend upon the other.
