About this deal

This tiny gem has more in common with LEICA M lenses than anything from Sony, Nikon or Canon, most of whose small lenses are bigger, 100% plastic and have no aperture rings. As with all things in life, “it depends”. There is no one perfect focal length (after all, if that were the case, how would digital camera companies make any money?). Using the 23mm F2 WR along side the 35mm F2 WR felt very natural. The lenses work very well together and, with both using the same 43mm filter size, I definitely appreciated the ease of switching filters between the two, without having to mess around with step-down rings. The bayonet style fitting of the 23mm F2 WR lens hood feels a little more substantive than the screw-in hood of the 35mm F2 WR, but both are a little plasticy and it would have been nice to see a little more effort when compared to the quality build of the lenses themselves. The great thing about this kit is that you’ve got one for beautiful bokeh, and one that is flexible enough for video and wider shots. With a rounded diaphragm at large apertures I can get 18-pointed sunstars on brilliant points of light, but it takes some work and usually only at smaller apertures.

I was taking pictures more carefully. My snapshots turned into more composed shots. Still, I was not focussing on a specific genre of photography. I really liked that camera, but within 5 years I had autofocus problems three times. So I thought it was time to get a new camera. I decided to buy a Fuji X-T3 with the 23mm F2 lens, which I never regretted a second yet.More in focus at f2 or f1.4. Since you’re closer to your subject with a 23mm lens to achieve the same framing, you’ll get more in focus at wider apertures.

However, they aren’t weather resistant and don’t have the same speed of auto-focus as the newer generation of lenses: the 35mm f2, the 16mm f2.8, and the 23mm f2 lens we’re talking about today. Since my teenage years, photography was always present in my life. My dad used to have film cameras when I was young and he carried them with him on our family trips and holidays. When I was getting older I also had a small film camera. Later, when digital cameras became more and more affordable, I bought a Pentax K-30 with an 18-135mm lens. This camera boosted my photography. In this review, I’ll go over a bit more about what makes this lens great and why it might be a better option than the 23mm f1.4 for most people. The XF 23mm 1.4 R weighs 10.58 oz / 300 g, so the weight saving is not huge when compared to the 6.35 oz / 180 g for the XF 23mm f/2 R WR. At the base of the lens is a red dot just below the focal length marking (23mm). You can use this red dot to line up the lens to the mount on whichever camera you’re using.

What's in the box?

In the past, Fuji cameras have had notoriously inaccurate depth of field scales when shooting in manual focus mode. They’ve finally fixed this problem with the X-Pro2 (latest firmware) and the 23mm f2 lens! and 45 cycles per millimeter on APS-C is the same as 10 and 30 cycles per millimeter on full frame. The reality is, both of these lenses will give you stunning, sharp photos with great bokeh. The real question is whether you are looking for something that is also a wide angle lens or not, and your budget. The 23mm f1.4 is definitely in the upper price range when it comes to Fuji lenses. When we reviewed the XF 35mm f/2 R WR we came to the conclusion that unless you really need the extra stop the XF 35mm f/1.4 R provides, there’s no major benefit to be had from choosing the larger alternative. Keen to find out if the same can be said for the 23mm f/2R WR XF, we subjected it to some rigorous real-world testing. Fujifilm XF23mm f/2 R WR review: Features
