About this deal

The rear camera is a nicely balanced shooter, with a telephoto lens that doesn’t stray too far from the main sensor in terms of tone. The ultrawide tends to get a little too noisy for our liking, however, but that’s not unusual when straying south of flagship territory. Not that this matters with the presence of fast charging, and we mean fast. Oppo is one of the grand-daddies of fast charging tech, debuting it before almost anyone else years ago. Its proprietary system is called VOOC and it works a treat. The video score of 103 is respectable, though a handful of phones in the category do better. The Oppo Find X3 Neo is fairly competitive within its category, and though it does not particularly excel in any one aspect (except perhaps zoom), it will deliver decent results in most situations.

In the times when we weren't using the Neo at all, the battery drained very slowly indeed: this is a good phone for lasting a long time in standby mode. Oppo itself hasn't offered an estimate of the average battery life you can get from this phone, but we don't think you're going to have any worries on this front. It’s counterintuitive, since in this mode, the Oppo Find X3 Neo uses a “hybrid” crop of the 2x zoom. Image quality only just holds up at 5x, but the phone uses a tailored image-processing profile that makes photos look completely different to a manual crop of the 2x zoom. The Neo Classic has substantially more bells and whistles than more basic instant cameras, giving adventurous photographers far more creative freedom. All in all, the Oppo Find X2 Neo is an exemplary performer. Just know that for similar money you can step things up to true flagship level.Megapixels Electronic View Finder High ISO: ISO 6400 or more is available at full-resolution. Stabilization: Compensates for tiny involuntary movements of the camera. Level: Measures camera tilt and helps to keep the horizon level. Continuous Drive Ultra HD (4K) video: 3840x2160 resolution or more. Manual Controls: Both fully-manual (M) and semi-automatic modes (T and V). Custom White-Balance: Specifies exactly what should be white to the camera. Action Photography: Shutter speeds of 1/1500 or more. Night Photography: Reaches shutter-speeds longer than 4 seconds. Hotshoe: Allows external flash units to be attached. Spot Metering Accepts Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC), SDHC and SD memory. Standard 1080p doesn’t suffer from oversaturation. My best guess is this is the result of a software bug in 4K video that causes Oppo’s AI Highlight mode to switch on, whether you want it or not. And judging by my results, you don’t. Once this is fixed, the Oppo Find X3 Neo should be a great 4K video shooter. Oppo Find X3 Neo s oftware and performance – Not the latest internals, but still powerful One area in which Oppo tends to excel is in its own proprietary recharging technology. The Oppo Find X2 Neo comes with a 30W VOOC 4.0 charger, which is a notch below the brand’s very best effort.

In the UK you can get the handset direct from Oppo and from networks including Three and EE, but there's no sign of the handset going on sale in either the US or Australia. Design One-minute clip recording upgraded from 12 seconds as standard. A reduced cool down time between clips from 5 minutes to 1 minute allowing for up to 12 hours of cloud storage every day, per camera. If you want to spend even less than that, then the OnePlus Nord is the best cheap Android phone at the moment. At 6.44inches, it has a slightly smaller screen than the Oppo Find X3 Neo 5G, and its performance is good rather than great. But take one look at the very reasonable price tag and you’ll see why. You can use the Record and Snapshot icons to manually record a video or take a picture from the live stream. Manually recorded videos and photos are saved in your phone’s gallery and can be viewed, sent or shared through your phone’s gallery.

The Oppo Find X3 Neo is a bit like the OnePlus 9’s cousin. It doesn’t have that phone’s new top-end processor or 120Hz refresh rate, but it does have a proper zoom camera and a much fancier design with a curved-glass front and metal sides. You get bonuses you’ll notice day-to-day, and small cuts you probably won’t. Turning off notifications only turns off the push notifications on your device. Your Neos SmartCam will continue to automatically record alert videos based on the Alert Settings of your camera. If you turn off notifications, you will not receive a notification that an alert video has been captured, but you can view the alert video in the Neos SmartHome App. To install a MicroSD card, insert a MicroSD card in the slot in the base of the camera. There is an outline of a MicroSD card imprinted next to the slot to show you which way it should be inserted. For an Android device, open the device’s Settings and tap App > Neos SmartCam > Permissions and toggle Storage On. The Oppo Find X3 Neo speakers, too, are solid. There are two: one sits along the bottom edge of the handset, and you’ll find the other above the display. They aren’t quite as loud and beefy as those on the OnePlus 9 Pro – podcasts may struggle to compete with the sound of a kettle boiling 30cm away – but they’re punchy.

The user-selectable modes allow you to preset the focus for macro, standard or landscape shots, and the viewfinder automatically corrects for parallax while shooting macro photos. There’s also a “kid mode” that forces the camera to shoot at 1/400 for faster-moving action and “party mode” where flash is paired with longer shutter speeds for better-balanced low-light shots. I wish the Oppo Find X3 Neo had a true 5x periscope zoom, but that would have been a big ask at this price. Nevertheless, I have a lot of time for this 5x feature, warts and all.Note that this is independent of the 12-second alert videos that are captured and stored on the cloud for 14 days based on the camera’s motion and sound detection settings. The 12-second alert videos have a 5-minute cooldown period, so when there is constant motion the camera will record a 12-second alert video every 5 minutes and save that video to the cloud for 14 days. With a MicroSD card installed and set to Record events only, the camera will save video to the MicroSD card as long as motion or sound is detected. Holding the Oppo Find X2 Neo, first impressions are a little odd. This isn’t to say bad, but odd - the handset feels a little old fashioned. And by this, we mean thin and narrow, making it usable with one hand. Though we couldn’t reach every corner with our (admittedly hobbit-like) hands, that it was possible to type out a message on the go was a real plus. If the Edge 30 Neo has seen investment in its screen and general design, an area of clear sacrifice has been its performance. I like Oppo’s approach here. It has spread its budget to offer you an impressive main camera and both a good wide and zoom, rather than leaving out any bonus focal lengths. And it means you can have more fun taking pictures with the Oppo Find X3 Neo than you can with a OnePlus 9. Fun matters, right? Colour is oversaturated in 4K videos and stabilisation isn’t perfect. However, the Oppo Find X3 Neo does have an Ultra Stable mode, which crops into the view a little more and drops the resolution to 1080p. Curiously, this mode also fixes 4K video’s oversaturated colour.

It's hard to find a single fault in the aesthetics of the phone. The front display is only interrupted by the punch hole, kept out of the way in the top left corner, while the rear camera array looks neat and compact. There is a noticeable camera bump, but it's not a major problem, and even the Oppo logo is tastefully handled. The fingerprint sensor is embedded under the front display, which again helps the minimal and clean aesthetic of the phone. Once you go past that 2x optical zoom the rear camera does start to struggle, but if you absolutely have to use the digital zoom then you can get something that's usable most of the time. The photos that you end up with are more than good enough for social media, and sharing with friends, and that's all that most of us ask for. Key specs – Film: Fujifilm Instax Square; Power source: 2 x CR2; Lens: 65mm, f/12.7; Shutter modes: 1/2 – 1/400 automatic; Flash: Always on; Print development time: 2 minutes; Dimensions: 130 x 118 x 57mm; Weight: 390g Its 16-megapixel wide camera isn’t at the same level as the OnePlus 9’s, but it’s sharper than the iPhone 12’s. The company could have used the new Snapdragon 870, which seems more desirable since it’s a newer chip – but the difference between the two is so slight it isn’t worth worrying about. However, brightness is what stands out, just as on the Edge 30 Ultra (that's the highest-end model in this series). The Neo offers great clarity indoors and outdoors, and the turbo mode it heads into when in direct sunlight is impressive. This phone is noticeably brighter than the OnePlus Nord 2T, for example, which isn't entirely me eating my words, rather more giving credit where it's due. Nevetherless, if you want a more affordable high-end phone that doesn’t leave you feeling as if you’ve missed out then the X3 Neo is one of the best mid-range phones around. Accepts Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC), SDHC and SD memory. The key things to look for are the lens and the range of shutter speeds supported. Not all instant cameras have variable shutter speeds, which means that when the light drops you’ll need the flash to fire to get a decent image. If you’re feeling creative and want to do things such as light-painting you’ll want a camera that has a wide range of shutter speeds or, better yet, a bulb mode, where the frame of film is exposed for a chosen period. The strength of the competition could be the biggest problem for the Oppo Find X3 Neo, because otherwise it's a fantastic phone that we really enjoyed using. If you're in the market for one of the best phones around this year, then we'd recommend taking a long, hard look at this one. Oppo Find X3 Neo price and availability
