About this deal

To make an effective insecticide spray, mix equal parts water and alcohol into a spray bottle and spray lightly over the plant – don’t drown it! When repotting a plant, use commercially prepared potting soil rather than soil from outdoors, which can be a source of pests. An organic insecticide, neem oil has seen a rise in popularity as a method to treat everything from insects through to fungi.

You just need 1/4 cup vegetable oil, 1 Tbsp liquid dish soap (one that doesn't contain bleach, degreaser, synthetic dyes, or fragrances), and water. In addition to this bug spray, you may want to use a bug zapper to help keep mosquitoes (and other bugs) from biting you. Wash and chop the peppers and put them in the blender or food processor with a cup of water. Blend until smooth. Root Ball Pests: Houseplants taken outdoors during the summer may have their root balls infested with pillbugs, millipedes, and slugs. These houseplant pests may cause minor feeding damage to root systems. They are generally found along the exterior of the root ball in small cavities carved from the potting mix. Ants may also make nests within the potting soil of houseplants while outside. Most bug bites are harmless, yet some can spread dangerous diseases like Zika virus, malaria, and Lyme disease,” says Dr. Deirdre Hooper, MD, FAAD, a board-certified dermatologist at Audubon Dermatology. “It is important to take the necessary precautions to reduce your risk. If you are wearing bug spray with your sunscreen, apply the sunscreen first. Once it has dried, apply your repellent of choice.”

If you are growing a small indoor crop to supply your family with fresh veggies, use a methanol spray solution to stimulate them. Be careful which plants you spray the solution on as it has only been successfully tested on a specific group known as the C3 plants – tomato, peas, beans, beets, and sunflower, and then only when grown in a stress-free environment. The easiest way to kill light-scale infestations is by dipping a cotton swab into rubbing alcohol and dabbing it onto the scale. The process is tedious, but this method is effective. Prune disfigured leaves, branches, and twigs from the plant to prevent the scale from spreading. This natural bed bug spray is the best bug spray for killing all stages of bed bugs, including eggs, nymphs, and adults. It’s made of non-toxic and eco-friendly plant-based ingredients which makes it safe to use around children and pets. We also love that it’s a USDA Certified Biobased Product. It can be used safely outside or inside the home, and can be sprayed directly on mattresses or box springs. Control: Wash the plant. Spray the plant thoroughly with insecticidal soap, especially the lower leaf surfaces. Imidacloprid granules put onto the soil will also control whiteflies. For houseplants that are taken outdoors, spray with insecticidal soap, neem oil extract, acetamiprid, imidacloprid, cyfluthrin, deltamethrin, or lambda cyhalothrin to control whiteflies. See Table 1 for examples of brands and products. See footnote on Table 1 about spraying houseplants outdoors. Follow label directions for safe use. Less Common PestsUse a mild and biodegradable dish soap that does not contain bleach, ammonia, or other harsh chemicals. Neem oil has been used in India for thousands of years and is a trusted method to keep on top of pests, without any of the nasties,’ explains John Maree, co-owner of OxyPlants. ‘A spray of Neem oil on the tops and undersides of your plant’s leaves will help remove several pests, including mites, whitefly, aphids, thrip, and mealybugs, at every stage in their life cycle. Using neem oil also helps to get rid of powdery mildew, too.’
