About this deal

So, I was wondering if anyone here uses one of these compressors or has heard anything about them, good or bad? Or if there is another entry level compressor that would be a better fit to general modelling requirements. Regulating the PSI of the compressor is a must for painting miniatures. You should get one that can go in the 10-40 PSI range. This will be the range you will most likely need for painting miniatures with it. An AS186 will be sufficient for this. 5. Low volume of noise I have tried it with 4 airbrushes, the two 'freebies' that came with the compressor, the trigger model I have also reviewed and my very ancient Aerograph AE. Now, there are a tonne of compressors around, and these are split in to various types that can be confusing. There are two types initially, ones with air tanks/reservoirs, and ones without. The ones with, have a motor, that compresses the air, to a specified pressure, in a metal canister. Once its full, the motor stops, and you have a box with air in it set to your chosen psi, meaning you get a really nice, smooth flow of air. Soon as you begin to use up the air, the motor comes on and refills it automatically. Many airbrush compressors will nothave an airtank, however all compressors that do haveair tanks will be fitted with a drain valve. You will find this valve at the lowest part of the compressor's tank. Gravity will help the water that condenses inside the tank flow to the lowest part. Prior to removing the drain valve its not a bad idea to wear rubber gloves and place a large open tray under the tank to catch the discoloured water. Now with the compressor switched off and any remaining pressure in the tank completelyexpelled, unscrew the drain valve all the way. The water will now drain from the tank into the open tray. Again, it makes for good standard practice to drain the tank as often as possible, remember as soon as you use your compressor you have water in the tank. If you don't drain the tank the chances are it will start rusting the tank from the inside.

The compressor is less important than the airbrush, but I recommend not saving here. A version of the AS186 will not cost you super much, but any cheaper and you will get either: something that breaks down, does not have good enough air pressure or that is very noisy. 2. A tank and auto on/off It seems to cope well with all four brushes, and has seems to have given a new lease of life to the old AE.body art, nail art, temporary tattoo work, custom car spraying art & murals, motorcycle tanks, helmets, military, scale model spraying, This is the AS186 model most of us have used at some point, like the Bambi, it does have a reservoir. While some of the products in this article might be review copies sent to us by manufacturers, they have no say in what we write about them.

These devices are used to reduce or increase air pressure (PSI) to the air output. Compressed air may be held in the compressor's receiver (Tank) or may be supplied from a direct drive piston or diaphragm. The air output is controlled by the user by adjusting the air pressure regulator to a specific (PSI) setting for use with the airbrush. It will allow you to hook up two airbrushes at once. This is nice if you change between a big and a small version a lot, but other then that it is not super relevant. But it as an amazing compressor, but the price is also set accordingly. Looking for and Airbrush with that? A good piece of kit for model making use. Worth the investment if you are intending to regularly airbrush your models. Another advantage of AS -186A is it's low noise output, so it can be used in the evening at home. Thanks to its low weight it can also be used as a portable hobby compressor.

Hobby compressor with air tank Fengda® AS-186

The big advantage of this compressor over the AS-18-2 compressor is that it has a pressure tank that will reach the desired pressure and then turn off. The instruction manual advises the tank should be drained on a regular basis to remove condensate. I have removed the drain plug a couple of times and only once found a very small amount of condensate. I have however noticed a small amout of condensate in the regulator moisture trap which gets blown out when I release the air pressure. Single piston oil-free mini compressor with a small tank (pressurised), output pressure control, filter and pressure gauge. This really depends on how much noise is a problem for you, but getting a compressor that does not make as much noise as a jet engine is a good idea for most people. Very crappy ones will tend to get noisier. An AS186 is not noiseless, but it is bearable because it only fills up the tank when it is needed. 6. Make sure it fits

Output from the regulator is a standard 1/8 BSP connector to fit most airbrush air-lines, which is an improvement of many compressors that have a 1/4 BSP fitting and hence require an additional adaptor to fit the airline. At last I can now set the required air pressure accurately, the regulator on the old compressor was pretty temperamental, showing 1 bar when switched off and a max of just over 2 bar when running, so no idea as to what pressure I was actually using, but after 30 years use I guess it was due for retirement. This compressor is suitable for household and hobby use. Fengda Compressor AS -186 can be used with airbrush spray guns which have nozzle diameters of 0.2 mm - 1 mm . The cylinder stabilizes the air avoiding pulsing. Scottish Highlands: All postcodes containing AB and IV / KW1-KW14 / PA21- PA38 / PA80 / PH16-PH26 / PH30-PH41 / PH49-PH50 Most compressors will fit to most airbrushes, but some airbrush makers feel the need to make a “special” insertion thing for their airbrushes (think Apple style).

Over time water will build up in your tank. If you have no way of removing it, the water will suddenly spray out of your airbrush. Not cool man! If less noise is very important, you should go with a Paasche D3000R Compressor. It is actually just a more expensive version of a generic AS186, but quite a bit silent and more sturdy. But besides Badger, I have not seen issues with the other big brands. Other great compressors for airbrushing miniatures The second type is direct, basically the motor compresses the air, and pushes it straight down the hose to your airbrush at your chosen pressure. That motor is running whenever you’re spraying, and the air pressure is controlled by a regulator. This is a device in the setup that makes sure the air pressure stays at the psi you set it at for the task at hand. We’ve been asked again and again for info on airbrushing, where to start, what to buy, what you need, as it can be a minefield, and fairly daunting. Well, here it is, part one of a solid, friendly guide, presented in a manner that’s not confusing, elitist, or jargon heavy, designed to guide you through the initial steps.Initial charge time for the air tank was 95 secs, reaching an indicated pressure of 4 bar (57 PSI) as per spec. I then held the airbrush valve open - the indicated pressure gradually dropped down to 3 bar (43 PSI) at which point the pump restarted.
