About this deal

Tougher than the Avenger and with the same lascannons and missile options, swapping the bolt cannon for four autocannons, the Thunderbolt looks like fun. The S7 autocannons aren’t defensive but you’ll hit one target harder. All the guns are centreline-mounted though, meaning you have to point the Thunderbolt directly at whatever it’s trying to kill. You’ll have no problem doing this on the turn it arrives but aiming a plane directly at things isn’t always going to easy after that.

The sheer amount of Bolter shells that can be brought to bear at whatever target that might stand in the way is often enough to make the enemy break and run before a Bike has even reached them. Librarian ( Epistolary • Codicier • Lexicanium • Primaris Librarian • Vanguard Librarian) • Chaplain ( Reclusiarch • Primaris Chaplain • Judiciar) • Apothecary ( Primaris Apothecary • Apothecary Biologis • Helix Adept) • TechmarineIf the Tactical Doctrine was active for your army during the previous battle round, you can change it so that the Assault Doctrine is now active. Iron Hands Bike squads obviously get a durability boost in the form of an additional 6+ save. Given that each Biker has 2 wounds now, this can help save a few wounds during the course of the game if you have a large enough squad. Now that you have a decent understanding of how Space Marines function in Warhammer 40,000, let's break down some of the best units you can incorporate into your army lists.

With the change to the shooting rules, giving your squad Sergeant a combi-weapon is a great deal in 8th edition, allowing you to shoot with it every turn and even giving you additional Bolter shots if you fire both weapons at the same time. Three lots of special weapon in a squad is a big boost to be firing every turn, especially as you can fire at separate targets from the Bolters. Three Flamers will make a mess of a lot of light armoured infantry, while three overcharging Plasma Guns at rapid fire range will make most units in the game sweat. If you are looking for a cheaper option, you can always arm your Sergeant with a Bolter or Storm Bolter for the additional shots. Bike Squad tactical strikes are often likened to thunderbolts, as by the time the enemy hears their approach, the damage has already been done. To manifest the psychic power, you must first pass a Psychic test. The opposing player can then select one of their PSYKER units that is within 24" of the PSYKER unit attempting to manifest the power and attempt to deny that power before its effects are resolved by passing a Deny the Witch test.An ancient Raven Guard Space Marine Legion Mark IV Outrider Assault Bike armed with a set of twin-linked Bolters Bolt Pistol, Bolter, Chainsword, Combi-weapons, Grav-pistol, Lightning Claw, Plasma Pistol, Power Axe, Power Fist, Power Maul, Power Sword, Storm Bolter, or Thunder Hammer (Bike Sergeant Only) (Scout Biker Sergeant Only) To this end, the Codex Astartes dictates that all of a Chapter's Assault Marines, Scout Marines and the entire 6th Company should master the art of mounted warfare as part of their training regimen. A few Chapters take this further, with every Space Marine required to maintain his mounted training, even though he may have long passed into the elite 1st Company, or perhaps even into the exalted ranks of the Chapter Council. Venator Kill Team - A Venator Kill Team is a formation used by the Deathwatch, the Chamber Militant of the Inquisition's Ordo Xenos. A Venator Kill Team consists of a squad of Deathwatch Veterans, a squadron of Deathwatch Bikers on Assault Bikes, and any number and combination of Deathwatch Librarians, Deathwatch Terminators and Vanguard Veterans. A Venator team is assembled when the Deathwatch must face a foe too agile or manoeuvrable for a more conventional strike force to contain it. Where such a xenos army could run rings around an armoured division or Gladius demi-company, the Venator team turns the enemy assault on its head, its bike-mounted warriors hurtling in wide sweeps to encircle the foe in their turn. When their designated quarry is located, the Bikers share the data of their previous forays with the rest of their team. It is then that cold vigilance turns to fiery, red-hot fury. As the bikers finally open fire, the weapon systems borne by the rest of the team's Veterans send salvos blasting in on the coordinates set by their bike-mounted brethren -- no matter how fast their prey, the pinpoint vengeance of these volleys strikes home with killing force. This is a straightforwardly good unit, comprising 1-3 chonky “cavalry”. Javelins are surprisingly tough thanks to being T6 (so difficult to instakill and almost immune to bolters) with 4 wounds. Harbinger of the Legion means that shrouding will negate more than half the damage you suffer if you evade or you can return fire very effectively. Just hope you don’t meet a Typhon.

Scout Bike - During the final stages of a Space Marine Scout's training he is attached to a Scout Bike squadron. Scout Bike Squads are usually deployed as fast-moving reconnaissance and disruption units. These squads will operate outside of the chain-of-command and will only answer to their commanding Sergeant. Scout Bike squadrons are commonly used behind enemy lines to lay cluster-mine traps, call down orbital bombardments, and teleport homers to allow squads to deep-strike behind enemy lines. Space Marine Scout Bikes are nearly the same in all ways to the standard pattern of Assault Bike, except they are outfitted with lighter armour and quieter, baffled engines. Scout Bikes can also be armed with an Astartes Grenade Launcher instead of the standard twin-linked Bolters.Another fantastic benefit of being White Scars is getting to use the Born in the Saddle Stratagem. For only one Command Point, this allows a White Scars Biker unit to shoot and charge, even if they advanced in the turn. This gives the Bikers an incredible threat range, able to move 22″ and still fire and assault. This gives you a lot of Bolter shots to put into the enemy army, or allows you to get up to four Melta shots at very close range on a potent enemy unit or vehicle. None of their weapons are defensive so everything must target the same thing (bad if you have something like a multimelta and heavy flamer). Some Chapters employ them to perform reconnaissance manoeuvres, or as hit-and-run raiders behind enemy lines. I’d be particularly concerned about flying transports arriving late, so I’d never put an expensive melee unit in one. Even if they arrive straight away on T2 the people inside can’t disembark if it zooms. That means no melee before T3, assuming you don’t go down in flames before then, likely killing most of the passengers. You can deep strike in hover mode if you want but then troops that disembark can’t assault and the enemy don’t even need skyfire to ruin your day by interception. Following the death of the Arch-traitor Horus, the Traitor Legions made a hasty retreat from Terra into the Eye of Terror, all the while being harried from world to world by White Scars Bike Squads. The following is a list of all known Adeptus Astartes battle formations that include Assault Bikes: If the Devastator Doctrine was active for your army during the previous battle round, you can change it so that the Tactical Doctrine is now active. But the more fun thing is to give them combi-meltas, which Seekers use better than anyone. They can infiltrate and hit a Spartan with a few melta shots before it and the 10 Cataphractii inside leave their deployment zone. No Spartan to melt? Cool, just use your precision shots to melt holes right through the enemy Praetor. They only get one shot with their meltas but given that they’re likely to be standing on their own in front of a whole army that’s not exactly a big issue. As the warring armies close upon one another and vicious firefights erupt, the Codex lays out strategies for swiftly seizing the initiative and combining versatility with firepower. While this combat doctrine is active, improve the Armour Penetration characteristic of every Rapid Fire and Assault weapon that models in this unit are equipped with by 1.During the final stages of a Scout Marine's training, he is attached to a Scout Bike Squadron. Scout Bikers are employed as fast-moving reconnaissance and disruption units. They operate on a far longer leash than other Scouts, often operating as a separate and distinct adjunct to the main Space Marine strike force, answerable to none save the commanding Sergeants of their Squadron. For me, Bike Squads were the ultimate troops choice in 7th edition. They were fast, incredibly durable with their Jink save and had some great firepower with their twin-linked Boltguns. The change to 8th edition has seen some big changes to the Bike Squad, both positive and negative, but I still think that they are an effective unit to add to your Space Marine army. Bike Squads also benefit from having a supporting Captain or Chapter Master on a Bike, as they can keep up with the highly mobile unit and give them re-rolls to hit to help with their damage output further.
