About this deal

I parked along the un-made up road and walked the final bit through soggy grass to the pillar. Nice views from the area, nice and tranquil. Further information on trig pillars can be found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/trigonomy and at www.trigpointinguk.com. Followed path out of Ribchester east from New Row along extremely muddy and very slippy paths. Styles slippery and in bad condition. Lancashire Rose motifs on the trig have faded.

After the almost three miles on the cycleway we end with a walk past the historic St George’s Quay, Lancaster Priory and the Castle, a fitting end to the Lancashire Way. From Lay-By near to the Church Followed ROW and Lane almost to Trig Which sits in a meadow and is in good Condition with a plastic cap . all Sight Holes Open and the FB faces 147 Rob, of Peterborough, completed a list of 6,190 trigs and celebrated his achievement with 29 friends and fellow trig baggers in 2021. The above table may well be disputed by some so please read on for an explanation of how I came to the above. Full route, map and GPX here: Edale Skyline Route | 20-Mile Route (Ultimate Peak District Challenge) Lantern Pike + Harry Hut walk from Hayfield Harry Hut trig pointHere today to celebrate my 60th birthday on the 4th of August by painting Longridge Fell trig and Doe Hill trig with Alex Cameron and Paul Webster. One side of trig was painted purple at my 2012 visit and some purple paint was still visible today. A perfect journal of your hiking adventures in Lancashire – now your challenge is to complete them all!

Around 5% of Triangulation Pillars have no Landranger map number associated with them. This could be because they are in Ireland or because the pillars are destroyed or even because they are non-typical OS pillars, such as those associated with the Great Glen project. I’ve added this walk as it’s a lovely route; however it’s not overly efficient as the first three trigs are in the first half (12-miles), then the final trig Birchen Edge is at mile 23. This means there’s a big chunk in the middle with no trigs. Unless you want to detour to White Edge but adding extra miles on a long walk isn’t the best of plans!

And for those of you also completing the Ethel bagging challenge there are 5 Ethels on this walk – Win Hill, Brown Knoll, Lord’s Seat (Rushup Edge), Mam Tor and Lose Hill. Had a lovely walk to this trig point today, very wet and damp across the fields good job I was wearing my wellies.

Firstly those who do not recognise the current boundaries of the county of Lancashire will cite that Coniston Old Man at 803m is the highest point in Lancashire. One of four trigs bagged the morning after an overnight stay in Lytham - I had been there to see the mighty Wishbone Ash at the pavilion. I parked near the donkey sanctuary to follow the PROW. It was early with the sun low in the sky with rising mist from the ground and accross the Ribble Estuary. The pillar was generally in good condition but the centre cap for the spider was missing. On the Ethel bagging challenge there are 3 Ethels on this walk – Mill Hill, Harry Hut and Lantern Pike

Finally the Trig point, stone shelter and Paddy’s pole on Fair Snape Fell have a height of 510m. Hence I have placed this below Lad Low on the above list. However, about 250m before this on the Lancashire Way you will have climbed to around 520m but again it is a non descript peaty mound so again I have discounted this. This database uses data taken directly from two main sources: Trigpointing UK and the Ordnance Survey trig point database Inaccuracies

This 10-mile trig walk includes three of the Staffordshire trigs and takes you on a lovely circular route to include them all. Good views towards Winter Hill etc. Field occupied by docile rams. Plug replaced with metal insert. Whereas the "by OS Area: HP to TV" links on the left sidebar here, allow you to bag all trigpoints in each of the Ordnance Survey Grid Reference areas.

While some trig bagging routes offer an easy going stroll others form the basis of a more challenging mountain hike. Margery Hill is the only Ethel on this walk. However, if you wanted to add some extra miles (2 to be exact) then the County Top of Yorkshire – High Stones (Howden Edge) is approximately a mile further on from Margery Hill.
