About this deal

USB-C to Apple Pencil Adapter required to work with iPad (10thgeneration). Subject to availability. In a nod to the unprecedented times we’ve all recently experienced, and the attendant Zoom boom, the front-facing selfie camera has been boosted to 12MP. It also features the handy Center Stage feature, which debuted on the iPad Pro (2021), which pans and zooms the camera automatically to ensure that you’re always in frame during video calls. The 10.2in iPad is still the best tablet for most people offering an unbeatable combination of value, performance, software and longevity. As we’ve mentioned, both models of the iPad 10.2 (2021) have double the storage space of last year’s equivelents- you can choose from either 64GB or 256GB models. Although, as with all iPads, there’s no support for a micro SD card, so you can’t expand the storage space at a later date.

The rear 8MP camera sensor is unchanged. With enough light, you can easily grab reference shots or scan documents with it. In low light, noise starts to creep in, and photos are shallower. And with AR tasks, depth perception seems slightly skewed. Better With iPadOS The displays have rounded corners. When measured diagonally as a rectangle, the iPad Pro 12.9‑inch screen is 12.9 inches, the iPad Pro 11‑inch screen is 11 inches, the iPad Air and iPad (10th generation) screens are 10.86 inches, and the iPad mini screen is 8.3 inches. Actual viewable area is less. While the 8 MP wide angle is less powerful than the one mounted on the iPad mini, the 12MP FaceTime HD camera is exactly the same. The ultra-wide-angle sensor has a 122 ° angle of view and makes 4K video recordings. The “ Auto Framing” function ensures during a video call the caller is always in the centre of the frame, making video conferences and calls much more engaging. The camera also shines for its versatility and, in addition to the ability to take pictures, it allows you to scan documents (thanks to the True Tone Flash) and experience augmented reality. Fast Wi-Fi and iPad OS15 The dimensions remain unchanged compared to iPad (2020), and the Cupertino giant re-proposes the now tested Retina display. The screen is ideal for watching movies, playing games or drawing, and guarantees brilliant colours and incredible detail. The True Tone adjusts the colour temperature and protects the eyes of those who spend hours in front of the screen. The prices also differ little from what we have seen in past years and are confirmed as those of the high-end to which the iOS tablets belong. Cellular models with 256 GB memory are the most expensive, but by giving up some storage and the LTE connection you can save some money. Top-of-the-range Photographic Sector The step up from A12 Bionic to A13 Bionic isn’t quite such a big upgrade as the front camera – last year’s iPad didn’t exactly feel slow (and still doesn’t) – but it is another worthy improvement. In context, it’s the same processor as in the 2020 iPhone SE and the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max and, unsurprisingly, it performs on a similar level.Adding a Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil makes the iPad a capable laptop replacement for simple tasks (Photo: Steven Winkelman) Pros: great performance, good battery life, good screen, iPadOS, plenty of apps, good speakers, very long support, recycled aluminium, Centre Stage camera. The iPad has the same 32.4-watt-hour battery as its predecessor, and Apple claims it will last up to 10 hours between charges. In our battery drain test, which streams HD video over Wi-Fi at full brightness, the iPad lasted 5 hours and 18 minutes before shutting down. That’s a little less than we’ve seen in past years, but with more conservative use (and a lower screen brightness level), we believe the battery will last close to Apple's estimate. Finally, a New Camera

This automatically adjusts the display to suit the ambient lighting of your surroundings so that it’s easier to see – when using the iPad outdoors in the daytime the screen automatically becomes brighter, for example – and during our testing we found this to be a welcome upgrade. The displays have rounded corners. The iPad 10.2 (2020) is also the only iPad that still features a Lightning connector, rather than a USB-C port. This can be found on the bottom of the iPad, along with two speakers; however, while the two speakers on the iPad mini will recalibrate so that the sound suits the orientation of the tablet, the iPad 10.2’s speakers can’t do this, meaning the audio isn’t as impressive, although it will do the job.

Apple: The Price of Innovation

Apple has given the iPad 10.2 a new chipset in the form of the A13 Bionic processor, which debuted in 2019 in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. While it’s not the brand’s latest processor – that’s the A15 Bionic, which can be found in the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro – it’s certainly a solid upgrade over the A12 Bionic in the iPad 10.2 (2020). If your iPad is eligible and you accept the quote, we will send you a free trade-in kit, separate to your new iPad (at no cost to you), so you can then send in your current iPad within the 14-day return window.

Like the iPad mini (2021), the iPad 10.2 (2021) arrives running iPadOS 15, Apple’s dedicated tablet version of iOS. As well as offering many of the features found in iOS 15, it’s designed to make the most of the tablet’s form factor, and as such, it brings refinements to multitasking. There are only three upgrades of note. The first is the processor, with the 10.2in iPad moving to the Apple A13 Bionic from the A12 Bionic of the previous model. That places it two generations behind the new iPad mini and iPhone 13 handsets, and one generation behind the iPad Air. As mentioned, the iPad is Apple's only current tablet to support its first-gen Pencil. Awkward cylindrical design aside, the original Pencil is a good stylus—though despite Apple’s claims, it feels nothing like writing on paper, with no drag whatsoever. That said, you get used to it after a few weeks, and it's pleasing enough to use once you do. The iPad only has wifi5 and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity, not wifi6 and Bluetooth 5 that has been available on most new devices for the last few years. Even though this is a fairly cheap device, the display is certainly good enough for that. It isn’t a wide gamut screen like that on the iPad Pro 12.9 (2021), but it is wonderfully accurate in the sRGB colour space with an average Delta E of 1.09. It produces a peak brightness of 483cd/m², so it will be readable in all but the brightest conditions, and its contrast ratio of 1,104:1 ensures that onscreen imagery looks punchy and impactful.
