About this deal

Another from the second LP. Probably not technically as good as the original but it works so well in the context of the album.

The innovative soul musicians, who are known for hits such as ‘Got To Get You Into My Life’ and ‘One Way Love’, were the first London band to be signed by Beatles manager Brian Epstein and first British band to be signed to the Motown label. Coplan, Chris (20 September 2009). "Album Review: The Beatles – Revolver [Remastered]". Consequence of Sound . Retrieved 12 December 2018. Everett, Walter (1999). The Beatles as Musicians: Revolver Through the Anthology. New York City: Oxford University Press. ISBN 978-0-19-512941-0. Bennett formed the band in 1957. They recorded several singles with record producer Joe Meek that were released by Parlophone. Bennett continued recording for Parlophone, issuing cover versions of “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me” and “Got My Mojo Working”. Cliff Bennett will be on vocals, supported by a five star line up with Lars Lundquist on lead guitar, Pete Pritchard on bass, Geoff Nicholls on drums, Dave Forristal on keys, Bob Lovett on trumpet, and Aaron Liddard and Damian Hand (sax).

This was one of their last live performances as the band had decided to stop touring and to turn their attention to recording in the studio, a decision which was to lead to the release of Sergeant Pepper the following year.

Riley, Tim (2002) [1988]. Tell Me Why – The Beatles: Album by Album, Song by Song, the Sixties and After. Cambridge, Massachusetts: Da Capo Press. ISBN 978-0-306-81120-3. In terms of mood setting, the opener Three Rooms With Running Water, was an absolute delight. This was one of the three singles I alluded to though I don’t recall it getting any airplay, a regular refrain of mine on Bennett records. The song was co-written by Jimmy Radcliffe, a man who is famed as much for his writing ability as his performing. The original version was recorded by H B Barnum in ’64 though there were later ones from Johnny Nash and Clyde McPhatter. A great song (with a magnificent hook) and a great original but I’m glad that Cliff’s arranger decided to do without the shrill strings. In 1988, English guitarist Mark Lundquist reformed The Rebel Rousers. He functioned as both band leader and manager until 1996. More recently, Lundquist has toured alongside Mike d’Abo, Chris Farlowe, Zoot Money, Maggie Bell, Screaming Lord Sutch, The Manfreds, Steve Ellis and New Amen Corner. […] Finally, Dean Sterling & The Teen-Beats’ “Lost Love” (Pye B, 1961) is a wistful, obscure gem that unlike its oft-anthologized top side “Send Me A Girl” is truer to the Buddy spirit, I feel. Got to Get You into My Life" won a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s). [49] The song was also nominated for a Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. And in case anyone’s wondering, my opening clip featured Cliff and the boys with a live version of I Take What I Want. My closer just has to be another Sam & Dave number.

Unfortunately, a competing version on Decca truer to the demo was issued by Garry Mills, a more connected and well-known name (e. g. he was Nat Gonella’s nephew and had scored hits for Rank) and the sales were split in mid-1961, with Mills taking chart “honors” at #39.
