About this deal

The Bitter End is again an example of a song with a calming vibe, while Pay No Mind is based on interesting riff with visible synth elements and great rhythm section. I know and witnessed what this guy can do with his voice, the high note in Words Darker Than Their Wings is legendary. On the heavier side of things, I particularly enjoyed 'Indoctrination' which features a Sitar-like instrument and a wicked beat and 'Forever Falling', which sees Tremonti taking lead duty following his significant improvement as frontman of his own act.

The falsetto at the beginning of the song is the one that gives me goosebumps and the chorus that Myles is taking over is absolutely catchy. As I was previewing this album the following two songs peaked my interest by not only being killer songs but made me think that if bands like those I mentioned above were dominating radio today like they did back in that era, this is what I think they could very well sound like. The next song on our throwback road trip, Godspeed, has that head bobbing, straight kick groove going on and I love it. The power of Brian Marshall’s bass combined with what is my favorite drum track on the record gives us an unbelievable segue back to the current sound of AB.And as Myles sings “Do you feel alive” directly into your ears, it travels so deeply that one has just the urge to answer, “Oh hell yes! Somebody might hear the record and have no idea that was intended, but for a batch of songs, I tapped into some old loops that I either created or found randomly online, and worked with them in the background to inspire me to go in a different direction. The first abbreviated track, One Life sets up the album sort of like the way a movie begins with theme music to introduce the mood. Ultimately, 'WTS' offers perfectly competent hard rock that is almost certain to satisfy long-term fans. The EP features a new studio track, "Last Rites", written, recorded and completed entirely during the COVID-19 lockdown, and six live tracks taken from their American Victorious Sky Tour.

Water Rising is for sure an epic song and it’s no wonder that it has its place in the live show setlist for years. This album was recorded differently from the band's previous record due to scheduling constraints, with vocalist Myles Kennedy and guitarist Mark Tremonti sharing their own song ideas, which were then moulded into shape alongside bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott Phillips. Interviews indicate that much of the material off 'WTS' was written by Mark and Myles in the absence of the rhythm section, in a rather hurried fashion. In terms of highlights on the album, the slower, ballad-type songs continue to be AB’s strongest offerings. It’s almost like they’ve taken the best characteristics of their former albums and focused on writing and recording a powerful-but subtle in the right places, record. With obviously getting out of the safe waters onto a bit more unknown roads, the band matured and it’s safe to say that their latest work, Walk the Sky, will crawl under your skin with every tone.

Along with the announcement of the album's release, it was also revealed that the band would embark on a European tour with Shinedown, Sevendust and the Raven Age towards the end of 2019. In fact, there are so many nuances in the songs, Walk The Sky sits nicely on top of my list of favorite Alter Bridge records.

For now, 'Walk the Sky' will find a comfortable home in my playlists next to the bands’ previous works, but I doubt any of these tracks will be remembered as their best, which is the records biggest sin. I haven’t talked about lyrical content but there is sort of an introspective feel on this entire album. You can reach him via Twitter, where he is known to tweet out upcoming interviews to gather questions from fans that have the chance to be included in the interview and podcast. Songs like Indoctrination and The Bitter End keep my brain engaged with their dark tones and unique drum patterns, respectively. I’m talking about the album oriented rock (AOR) sound of bands like Journey, Autograph, Night Ranger, etc.
