About this deal

The Lifecycle of a Butterfly: This activity can act as a springboard for learning about the butterfly’s lifecycle. Get your squares of tissue paper and tear them into strips. You can choose any colours you want but bright colours work best!

Follow along with our step-by-step directions and video tutorial to see how to make these vibrant suncatchers! Customize the activity to coincide with different seasons or holidays. You can use this technique to make stained glass windows for Christmas, for your living advent calendar window, or for all kinds of holidays and celebrations. The options are endless. Invite your child to color their butterfly with crayons, colored pencils, or markers. All 3 materials will produce the effect of stained glass! In our samples, we used colored pencils. Place the butterfly cutout on a paper towel. Use the paintbrush to paint vegetable oil over the entire butterfly. Blot excess oil with a second paper towel. The oil will make the paper translucent, allowing a small amount of diffused light to pass through. The freedom to choose and place colored tissues stimulates children’s creativity and self-expression. This is fun for kids of all ages! Patience and Concentration Open the laminating pouch and cover the inside of it with tissue paper squares. Overlap the squares to create interesting shapes and color variations.
