About this deal

The aluminum injection-molded chassis is made of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer plastic, which has special rigidity and vibration-absorbing properties. The record player measures 453 x 173 x 372 millimeters (W x H x D). In addition, the 9.9-kilogram drive stands on four isolators with decoupled springs and rubber, which ensures increased vibration damping. So, when I was introduced to the Technics SL-100C Direct Drive Turntable, I knew I was in for a treat. Technics, with its long-standing reputation in the audio industry, has consistently delivered high-quality products that enhance the music-listening experience, and the SL-100C is no exception. Skeptics and naysayers credited Adele and Taylor Swift for that year’s boost but each year since, and without a “big” record, sales continued growing until in 2021, unit sales, not just dollar sales surpassed those of CDs. Vinyl was victorious.

The exterior of the turntable is magnificent. It represents the Premium Class, and its elegance, sleekness, and minimalism say it all. The body has increased stiffness and a highly damped insulator. These factors and its rather heavy weight of 21.82 lbs provide excellent anti-resonance and damping of own and external vibrations. The platter combines a dual-layer structure of rubber and aluminum. Playing the record is very smooth and soft; I could literally feel it. Additionally, while the SL-100C boasts a superior motor, it doesn’t come equipped with a speed regulator. This means you’ll have to adjust the rotation manually to suit your platter’s needs. Also, bear in mind that this model doesn’t come with a cover for your platter, leaving it exposed to dust and potential damage when not in use. Design and Features It's a canny move, then, to relaunch the SL-1200 as more of a luxury product for ageing clubbers and ravers. It might also score with well-heeled younger users, 'nostalgic' for deliciously retro things that they never actually experienced. The SL-100C also features an arm made of refined aluminum pipe, adding durability without compromising on style. A dust cover is included to keep your device clean and safe. Moreover, the arm cables and other accessories provided are of top-notch quality. Aesthetics and functionality blend seamlessly in the SL-100C, proving once again why Technics remains a leader in this field. Performance and Sound Quality But before getting to sonic details, here’s what I measured: the ‘table consistently ran at 33.35 using the Shaknspin device, which is close enough to 33.33. You won’t see that minute difference using a strobe disc. The other speeds were equally accurate (strobe measured). The Shaknspin app’s “deeper dive” produced these results, which are good. On the plus side, the Technics SL-100C plays records at three speeds, which is rare for most turntables. So it is an excellent bonus. I, for example, have a very good collection of old records, and I want them to live on. In terms of performance, the SL-100C is a standout. Its precision-engineered direct drive motor ensures stable rotation while reducing unwanted vibration, resulting in a cleaner, more authentic sound. The auto-lift feature is imposing, lifting the tonearm off the record when it reaches the end, protecting your precious vinyl from unnecessary wear. Value for Money Coreless direct drive motor, achieving stable rotation that is free from cogging and has powerful torque

Vinyl fans across the globe will be familiar with certain iconic characteristics of Technics turntables such as the iron-coreless direct drive motor and high-precision S-shaped aluminium tonearm. These now find themselves included as part of the direct drive Technics SL-100C turntable, an affordable way to sample the award winning experience offered by its more established sibling, the SL-1500C. If your audio usually comes via a Bluetooth speaker or headphones that might sound like a pretty minor victory but for a record player, that 'it just works' feeling is as rare as that Beatles LP where they are chopping up dolls on the cover. Then there are the vinyl newbies, who panic when they realise they will have to fit the turntable onto the body of the record player, loop a length of rubber from the drive to the turntable, then balance the tone arm with a baffling combination of written charts, counterbalance weights and dials.

User reviews

Since the turntable only plays the phono input of a receiver, integrated amplifier, or DJ mixer without distortion, it must be connected to the corresponding dedicated input. Otherwise, get an additional preamp that converts the phono signal into a line signal.
