Plato was brought up in the San Fernando Valley. When she was three, her new parents separated, and she lived with her mother. At an exceptionally young age, Plato started going to tryouts with her mom and age seven. She started showing up in T.V. ads, allegedly showing up in more than 100 ads. 6. It was a way for Plato to focus on healing from her losses without having to think or care about her financial situation. This was a huge mistake. Her accountant dealt her the greatest betrayal.

In 1990, Plato was getting ready to appear on the Sally Jessy Raphaël Show for a segment on child actors. Plato was also there for her own reasons: to let the world know she was clean and off drugs.
