About this deal

Meanwhile Earl’s daughter Dianna is adjusting to her new life in Liverpool. Determined to forge her own path, she has her heart set on becoming a nurse. However Dianna soon discovers that the reality of nursing is long hours of gruelling work, performed under constant scrutiny from the dreaded Matron – who seems to take pleasure in making Dianna’s life miserable. When a handsome art student catches her eye, Dianna finds herself at the crossroads between ambition and love. If you didn’t have the money to splurge on a room but you did want to experience the hotel, I’d recommend booking an afternoon tea in their stunning Palm Court. THE GIRLS OF VICTORY STREET bore some resemblence to Rosie Archer's The Bluebird Girls series, a nod to the late great Dame Vera Lynn and a series I also love. THE GIRLS OF VICTORY STREET is just as engaging, just as enjoyable and just as wonderful. I loved every minute of it and after that ending...and eagerly awaiting the next book in what promises to be an enjoyable lighthearted series. The Girls of Victory Street is the 1st in The Bryant Sisters series by Pam Howes and I really enjoyed it. I’m afraid it turned predictable – I was hoping it wouldn’t happen – but apart from that, it was entertaining. I found it very similar to Rosie Archer’s The Bluebird Girls Trilogy, which I loved. The days of the second world war for the women left at home while their men fought for their country, were hard. But they were strong and resilient, determined to “keep the home fires burning” while waiting for their men to return. Highly recommended. Previously, the route to Grassmarket and Lawnmarket was through the steep and narrow lane of West Bow.

Then ending left me hanging; hopefully there will be a sequel to answer many of the unanswered questions. The plot was good, parts of it old hat, but much of it new and refreshing. The girls were typical girls for the time, and each had stories of their own. Bella was a good character, forced into adulthood a little early and faced with some difficult choices, with which she did a credible job. The peripheral characters were varying degrees of well-rounded, as you would expect, but filled their roles nicely. All-in-all, a charming book, well worth the read. I recommend it. With characters you cannot help but care about, a strong sense of place, humour, pathos and plenty of heart, Pam Howes’s The Girls of Victory Street is an emotional saga that will bring a tear to your eye on many an occasion, but this is not a sad or melancholic tale, but a story of courage, hope, family and friendship that will touch the heart and warm the spirit.Pam Howes is a retired interior designer, mum to three daughters, grandma to seven assorted grandchildren and roadie to her musician partner.

I have followed the lives and loves of the original Bryant Sisters through the war years and beyond since the beginning. I have watched them bloom and grow, fall in love, get married, have children and settle down. Now the series is coming to an end as we see their children bloom and grow...as life for them comes full circle. I had honestly assumed that this series had reached its conclusion, so it was a real pleasure to discover a fifth instalment. As the synopsis explains, we are now a little over a decade since the end of the war. Queen Elizabeth is now on the throne and life in Liverpool’s Wavertree is starting to emerge from the scars left by the bombings. I loved how Bella as the years progress, and her life changes beyond all recognition, stayed true to her roots and that for her family and friends always came first. She works in the match factory alongside Fran and Edie and here is where the Byrant Sisters are born. Bella was a down to earth girl who never took anything for granted and appreciated all the wonderful opportunities that came her way. Yes, the family suffered tragedy with the loss of Betty at such a young age but they bore their sorrow stoically and were determined to whether whatever storms came their way. at maximum points, narrowing to 2.58m) Excellent range of high and low level units. Victory Street residents receive word that Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Phillip are going to visit them. Bella Harrison has worries of her own when her fourteen year old son Levi tells her that he is moving to America to be with his father’s family. Bella can’t imagine Levi living so far away, he is all she has. Bella receives some heartbreaking news from America, Bella and Levi’s lives are once again turned upside down.
