About this deal

In comparison to some of its rivals the Caddy does carry a price premium but it’s easy to see just where the Volkswagen rises above the rest when it comes to quality and refinement. Driven: Volkswagen Caddy 1.4 TSI petrol

Why We Like It: Well-padded to protect fragile gear, especially if you’re a content creator or carry a light for Zoom calls. The 102PS 2.0 TDI Caddy, with its 250Nm of torque, offers a better blend of performance and economy, returning 67.2mpg with emissions of 109g/km. It pulls well and delivers decent power and overall drivability. VW claims a fuel economy figure of between 41.4mpg and 44.1mpg ( WLTP), with CO2 emissions of between 145g/km and 155g/km. That’s significantly more CO2 than the diesels, but to put a happier spin on things, the petrol Caddy Cargo will achieve these numbers very soon after starting up without the long wait for a diesel to warm up.A stop/start system automatically shuts down the engine when the car is stationary and then automatically restarts it when pulling away. Switching off the engine while stationary reduces fuel use, emissions and noise. Modern cars now come with stop/start by default, but it was a relatively new technology when VW started using it under the BlueMotion name. 2) Energy recuperation It also uses a petrol particulate filter (PPF) to take some of the nastier emissions out of the exhaust gases. For those who’ve had issues with diesel particulate filters in the past, this might sound worrying, but there seem to have been fewer problems with PPFs – perhaps because petrol exhaust has less particulate matter in the first place. What’s it like to drive? It’s actually detuned from the brand’s passenger car range, where you’ll typically find this sort of power output coming from a 1.0-litre. That’s a good thing for longevity, though – as the reduced power output means the engine will be under less stress here. There is a choice of four diesel engines in the Caddy range, all 2.0 TDI units. Power outputs range from the entry-level 75PS through to 102PS and 122PS, right up to a range-topping 150PS version. Depending on power output the Caddy comes equipped with either a five or six-speed manual gearbox as standard, while there's an optional automatic DSG. The Caddy has also been sold with a broad range of 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4 TSI petrol engines.

Why We Like It: This miniature tech organizer has extra amenities to hold your passport and modular gear. At idle and at a cruise, the petrol engine is nearly silent, making this the most refined Caddy you can buy. Though sadly, this makes the Caddy’s excessive levels of road and tyre noise even more apparent – this isn’t a quiet van, despite the refined engine. How much will it cost to run? Incase is basically a household name when it comes to organizational accessories and laptop sleeves. The Accessory Organizer is a soft and lightweight case that fits into any EDC with plenty of internal organization. Their Bionic line basically keeps the same smart design, but utilizes a yarn made from recovered ocean plastic that looks great and feels really cool. We do question the usability of some of that technology (see the Interior section below for more details), and the payload still falls way short of the best competition. It's also a shame that the Caddy still isn't quieter in the cabin, another area where the best rivals now excel. Owners of previous Caddy vans may be perplexed by the tinny-sounding and lightweight-feeling doors, too. The petrol-power Caddy TSI claims 43.5-44.1mpg with the standard six-speed manual gearbox, 41.5-42.2mpg with the DSG auto. VW Caddy service warrantyThere won't be a Caddy Cargo electric van, as Volkswagen has gone all in on the ID Buzz Cargo, which is built on a dedicated electric vehicle platform. Finally, there is a ton of room for organizing larger items on the top right side. Thule has designed this space specifically for a pair of full-sized headphones—and that’s exactly how we’ve been using it—but it’s big enough for a wide range of tech gear. Even with a pair of large Audio Technica M50x headphones in here, there’s still enough room for other miscellaneous tech bits like a phone charger. Durability & Testing However, you should pay attention to exactly what's included for your money. Features you might now expect - such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto - are often an optional extra. VW Caddy mpg Although tailored to the MacBook, this laptop sleeve offers a bit of extra space for chargers and dongles as well as some webbing attachment points (not PALS compatible). The main compartment is well padded to protect your laptop or tablet while in transit. COMPACT SIZE - FITS ANYWHERE: The Tech Caddy Wall Outlet Shelf holder measures only 5" x 4.5", making it extremely compact, lightweight, and perfect for smaller spaces. Place it anywhere you need to create extra space for your smart devices, electronic gadgets, and other appliances and gain a shelf instantly.
