Tanzania has a number of important national parks and nature reserves – such as the Selous Game Reserve, where one of the largest populations of elephants live, and The Gombe Stream National Park, where animal expert Dr Jane Goodall carried out her famous research on chimps in their natural habitat. The Serengeti National Park, Tanzania’s oldest and most popular park for tourists, is home to over 1.7 million wildebeest and about a million other animals. Government

Desperate shrew ( Crocidura desperate): This endemic mammal lives in Tanzania’s tropical forest areas. It is a small animal with a long, pointed snout and dark-colored fur. There are desperate shrews in Uzungwe National Park.

This beautiful country is home to Mount Kilamanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa. Three of the largest lakes on the continent are also found in Tanzania – Lake Victoria in the north, Lake Tanganyika in the west and Lake Nysa in the southwest.

People and Society

The largest city of the country is Dar es-Salaam with almost seven million people living in the metropolitan area. Rufiji River is the largest and longest river that is entirely located in Tanzania. The river is about 600 km/ 370 miles long and navigable for about 100 km/ 60 miles. The Nile also flows through Tanzania. The Nile is the longest river in the world. According to the CIA, all land in Tanzania is owned by the government which can lease land for up to 99 years.
