This conscious framing of the book as a Die Hard set in the Highlands is complemented by Bob Hoon, who’s written very much in the hard-boiled mode with a number of genre winks and familiar characterisations. Do you enjoy working within the tropes of different genres? JD Kirk combines humor and action with some brutal, bloody, and violent plots and characters to make excellent crime thrillers.

All around, he is something of a DCI Kett if he was not grounded by the influence of his wife and children. Then I realised I was standing in the Eastgate Centre and that the word ‘Eastgate’ was literally perfect. Hoon owes him one and promises to help him find his daughter. From the mean streets of London to the Scottish highlands, Hoon goes on a relentless hunt as he encounters old enemies and makes new friends. If you plan to pop along to the Inverness signing of Barry Hutchison’s new book in the Eastgate Centre, mind out for any gun-toting Santas… Eastgate - final thriller in Barry's Hoon series is set in the Eastgate Centre! His life is a mess until one of his friends from his Special Forces days comes asking for help finding his daughter. She has been missing for several weeks and the police have been unable to find her.The girl had been taken by a group that goes by the name “The Loop.” They are a heartless cabal that usually kidnaps girls and makes them addicts before forcing them into prostitution. We have spoken to a local tour company here in Fort William and we are looking to bring them in for next summer!” He has become the author known for writing novels with gruesome deaths, twisty plots, and laugh-out-loud humor. He is one of the very few authors from Scotland to ever make the shortlist for the Kindle Storyteller prize.

But to take on “The Loop” organization he needs to find a way to get in. The only person that can get him in is Miles Crabtree of MI5. Even at a very young age, he was a huge fan of violence and gore just like he would be as an adult. I knew the book was coming out just before Christmas and Die Hard has always been one of my favourite movies of all time, and I thought ‘A Scottish Die Hard with a swearie, foul-mouthed psychotic Scotsman as Bruce Willis? That could be a lot of fun!’." Barry Hutchison who writes as JD Kirk. Hoon is over the top, foul mothed, and eager to use violence as a blunt instrument to find out what he needs to know. He is not above manipulating people. But after his quest to recover his friend’s daughter, a friend who he owes a lot, he now knows about The Loop and though he might not be able to get them all, he is determined to make a serious dent in their operation. But in this story he is kidnapped, beat up, chased all over the country, all because of a stupid ostrich. But as hoon prepares to make a last stand reminiscent of Skyfall, he turns to one of the few people he ever really looked up to. And even pulls in a few surprising allies. The “Robert Hoon Thriller” series is a set of novels by the popular Scottish crime fiction author JD Kirk. Despite his massive popularity JD Kirk is actually the writing name of the award-winning children’s fiction author Barry Hutchison. The “Robert Hoon Thrillers” are an exciting set of novels that are all about the adventures of Bob Hoon, the Detective Superintendent first introduced in the DCI Logan Thriller sereis. I got a behind the scenes tour – they let me into all the areas people don’t get to see generally. I was counting all the cameras and all that stuff. So if you ever need to hold the Eastgate Centre hostage, I’m your man! I’ve got all the inside info now.” He is a former police officer and former soldier and is currently a man on the edge. He divided his time between a whisky bottle and a dead-end job and is shunned by colleagues. What’s also interesting is I have something called aphantasia, which means I have no mental pictures, I think in words. But the number of people who say, ‘Oh, wow, it was just like being there’, and I always found that fascinating just how that works, because when I read a book, quite often when there are paragraphs and paragraphs describing a scene, I’ll almost gloss over that because it’s doing me no favours. It’s like, I get it, you’re in a room! I want the dialogue and the action and the story. But a lot of people like that lingering in a place and establishing the scene, so it fascinates me how different readers respond to different ways of writing.
