About this deal

As someone who has gone through 5 rounds of IVF and had two miscarriages, this book resonated deeply with me. I don’t know how Billie’s life is going to turn out, but I will do everything I can to help her be the happiest she can be. So here I would like to recommend this book no matter if you have children or not, or if you are having trouble falling pregnant you may find some suggestions in Lisa's book Meant to Be. By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible's Conditions of Use and authorise Audible to charge your designated card or any other card on file. Ive had this book on my tbr list for a while, as I knew I needed to be in the right place mentally to be able to read it and to have the time to reflect.

I knew these small things were like a lighthouse to her in a stormy sea, making her feel as safe as she could and guiding her home.Lisa's first book was published in 2012 and was a Sunday Times bestseller, and she has subsequently written 3 other cookery books. The things that I utterly relate to are that she always felt on the outside and that the grief never leaves you . The weeks before had been so intense, and we were – and would continue to be – under such watchful eyes.

Highly recommend to anyone experiencing fertility problems, baby loss, grief or people who plan to adopt a child. Over two years, my then-partner Chris and I went from trying to get pregnant naturally to having our fertility tested (everything looked normal) and going through IVF three times. She went through IVF three times with her former partner, suffered an ectopic pregnancy, investigated surrogacy and then decided to adopt after finding out she was infertile. Every time it failed, I felt my body had betrayed me, that I hadn’t looked after that precious embryo well enough.Chris and I stood on the other side of that door for about 20 minutes, looking at each other and listening to her gurgling into her bottle and singing to herself, hardly daring to move or make a sound for fear that we might disturb her.

It was emotional and complicated and delicate for every single person involved and we were all just trying to do our best for this wonderful little girl. I found myself drawn to it all given that I can relate to the very early stages of Lisa’s desire to want a baby. When that began to look too complicated legally and also too expensive, I launched us into adoption, not taking a breath. I didn’t need to worry, everyone had confidence in me – I had confidence in myself somewhere too, I just needed to find it. Lisa’s words are beautiful and so many sentences could only be truly understood by those who have gone through the same journey. This was really just a meeting to see how we were all doing now that the care plan had been carried out and Billie was starting to settle in with us. A great reminder that our paths may be different to those intended, but we can still get to the destination. Life can be unexpected; my plan was to be in a happy marriage with a biological child, and look how that turned out. this was a well written heart warming story, proving families come in all shapes and sizes no matter how they became to be. Having experienced infertility before going on to have my own children, I felt a strong bond with Lisa and hope that others will be able to take comfort from her story.

However, Chris and I get on better now than we ever did, I’ve recently married chef John Torode and we all parent together. It was just a bag, but I had really wanted to use it; filling it with nappies, wipes, a change of clothes, snacks and a book had brought me so much joy. But, in the months and years that followed, she discovered that there was more than one way to build a family – and that there is a lot of joy to be found in life’s unexpected detours. Excellent book for anyone thinking about adoption and asking themselves whether they are right for it. We recently went to see the film Instant Family, which is about adoption, with a friend who has two adopted children, too.
