About this deal

Because if all Single Barrels are bottled at 100 proof, that means that a barrel that was pulled from Tier 1 has a very good chance of having less water added to it. Four Roses Bourbon is the company’s entry level bourbon, and is made by blending all ten of their unique bourbon recipes consisting of two different mashbills and five different yeast strains. At last taste I find a citrus forward start before everything crashes into cardboard and far too much oak.

All 10 are blended in its Four Roses bourbon bottling, while the Small Batch release contains four of the combinations.Private Selections Single Barrels could be one of ten different recipes and they’re all bottled at barrel strength.

He has written multiple books on bourbon, has served as a judge at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the World Whiskey Awards, is the founder of Bourbon+ magazine, was the former lead American whiskey reviewer at Whiskey Advocate, hosts The Fred Minnick Show podcast (about bourbon) and is the Bourbon Authority for the Kentucky Derby Museum. After a minute I’m left with slightly more prominent apple, citrus, and mint noes as part of a long finish. The 6 resulting liquids are then separately aged in new, charred American oak barrels for a minimum of five years. Because this whisky isn’t blended, this 35% rye component plays a larger role in the bourbon, yielding a full bodied, spiced flavour. The basic gist of it is that there are two different mash bills which get described in the 2nd letter slot of the O _S_ puzzle. The distillation process for the Small Batch Select is performed in a 20ft tall Vendome column still. High Rye: A bourbon with a higher than normal percentage of mash bill made up of rye (as opposed to using more corn, wheat, or barley, the other main grains used in bourbon mash). Currants and raisins and even a blueberry preserve/jam pop and make the whole nose unique to other bourbons I have had. You’ll notice rich aromas of fruit and delicate flavours of apricot and pear balance perfectly with notes of oak, light spice and caramel.

Made from the combination of two mash bills and five proprietary yeast strains, each has its own balance of spice, fruit and nuance. Like in-state rivals Jack Daniel's, the brand is keen to remind drinkers that the two are not the same (even though they kind of are). Crème brûlée, biscoff cookie, and confectioners sugar pave the way for lemon buttercream frosting, tart raspberry and dark grape notes. It's made up of whiskeys from Indiana, Tennessee and Kentucky, with ages ranging from 4 to 16 years old. Furthermore, its unique flavour notes are enhanced by only using one of Four Roses’ carefully selected yeast strands during production. Not only does it drive a unique experience with the Four Roses Blending process, history and brand but it delivers on the expectation of what a single barrel should look and feel like. Take heed, though, since it somewhat controversially took home “Best in Show, Whiskey” at San Francisco World Spirits Competition a few years ago it’s been harder to come by, and more expensive than it used to be. Four Roses Single Barrel has a fragrant fruitiness from the apple, citrus, and just a little green grape and strawberry that lends to the overall character and depth that I enjoy, and sort of reminds me of Barrell Bourbon Batch 21.

Palate: A citrusy burst of orange rind and fresh squeezed lemonade hit my tongue first while complimentary fruit flavors of strawberry + blackberry jam, apricot jelly and ginger root all mingle around them. That makes sense because the two were once a part of the giant Seagram’s empire of distilleries before 2000. He has contributed frequently to our bourbon coverage over the years and is someone we regard as a friend.acquired a small distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky and established himself as an eminent whiskey maker. Single Barrel: A bourbon made using single barrels, providing a higher range of variation in flavor and the chance at specific, unique characteristics.
