About this deal

Hilarious comic characters in Colon and Nobby (IIRC, Colon had appeared in earlier novel as a very minor character, I forget which one). I loved the dialogues between them, especially when arguing who should rescue Carrot from drowning. People were stupid, sometimes. They thought the Library was a dangerous place because of all the magical books, which was true enough, but what made it really one of the most dangerous places there could ever be was the simple fact that it was a library. (p. 183) a stage play for the amateur stage scripted by Stephen Briggs (1993) (script later published in book form 1997). [7]

The Watch is generally regarded as a bunch of incompetents who walk around ringing their bells without accomplishing anything, which is largely accurate. Carrot's arrival changes this; Whereas the existing officers are either cynical, incompetent, mildly crooked or all three, Carrot is honest, straightforward and idealistic. He couldn't help remembering how much he'd wanted a puppy when he was a little boy. Mind you, they'd been starving—anything with meat on it would have done. (p. 106)I won't go so far as to say the main narrator has graduated from the William Shatner School of Dramatic Pauses, but he gets close at times. This version is 13.5 hours long and Nigel's is just barely over 10 hours, if that gives you an idea. His cadence took some getting used to.

You have the effrontery to be squeamish, it thought at him. But we were dragons. We were supposed to be cruel, cunning, heartless, and terrible. But this much I can tell you, you ape – the great face pressed even closer, so that Wonse was staring into the pitiless depths of his eyes - we never burned and tortured and ripped one another apart and called it morality. (p. 253) I hadn't known the Night Watch until now and couldn't imagine loving any character as much as Granny Weatherwax but there we are. Sam Vimes as well as his ragtag band of misfits (Sgt. Colon, Nobby Nobbs, & Carrot Ironfounderson) are hilarious when stumbling through Ankh-Morpork that is currently beset by a gigantic fire-spitting dragon. But of course there were rules. Everyone knew there were rules. They just had to hope like Hell that the gods knew the rules, too. (p. 292)The reason that clichés become clichés is that they are the hammers and screwdrivers in the toolbox of communication. (p. 146) Start with the first book in one of the subseries'. The Discworld books all take place on the same planet, but they involve different groups of people: Metcalf, Mitch (2 February 2021).
