About this deal

Will it also transmit power? It looks like it might NOT as I do NOT see any kind of barometer hole on it, although Garmin would probably get that BARO info from onboard sensors in their higher-end watches and the power algorithms would need that to properly calculate ‘power’. Thus this pod mightonly be a power meter for the more expensive GARMINwatches and just a simple footpod for speed/cadence/distance for cheaper ANT+ watches and other BLE watches/apps (eg forerunner 235, Polar Vantage, Suunto odd-number) If you are looking for reliable instant pace numbers out doors, set your foot pod Speed setting to Always. You can also set Distance to Always but I prefer to let the GPS take care of that and have mine set to Indoor. Pace—at least in my case—has a dramatic impact on calibration when running on pavement. At my preferred long run pace of 9:00/mile, the proper calibration looks to be between 102 and 103. For both walking at a leisurely 20:00 and sprinting at 6:30, I am coming up with 96. It looks like a bell shaped curve with a peak of 104 at around 9:30.

Perhaps most importantly though, and the thing we liked best about Stryd, was that it can help us improve our race pacing and stop us going out too fast, running hills too hard during races and helping us to run our true potential by keeping us moving just under that threshold line. And that means no blowing up at mile 20.

I may have misunderstood you but, if you ARE indoors, the pace can ONLY come from your foot pod. What you describe is the way I run OUTDOORS and the pace seems much more stable so I think it is coming from the FP but I only have one run so far with my new f3.

The training diary: The training calendar on the web-based Powercentre is a little cluttered and not the easiest on the eye. It’s quite hard to navigate and review your recent runs. The device includes an excellent grip on your running gear. It is because of this that it has existed in the marketplace for such a long period. Mobility- It is light-weight and also sufficiently small to affix to your various other running gears. You can wear this device, walk without anyone observing you have it.But there’s one little piece of data you won’t get from a treadmill console – or from GPS – and that’s running cadence. Yup, the foot pod will tell your cadence, which is a key area that many high end runners aim to improve (increase). Think of it simply as how many times your foot strikes the ground each minute. Ideally, this would start at about 92 times per minute, but that’s a whole different discussion for another day… The device: I have no way of knowing if the treadmill is properly calibrated for speed but it felt “right”. Besides, the main goal of this experiment was to determine the impact of relative pace on calibration factors as opposed to determining whether either or both of the displayed treadmill speed/indicated foot pod pace were actually accurate. And, with how good the competition is getting, Garmin would probably start to slowly lose market share if they started charging for their infrastructure. Hopefully brands like Coros, Suunto, Polar, Amazfit and even Apple will keep Garmin ‘honest’ by creating great watches and NOT charging a subscription. There are several points to take into consideration when it comes to buying the best foot Pod. There are lots of pods around the marketplace; very few will please your demands and can be considered the best foot pod. Below are a couple of points to keep an eye out for. Last, but not least, we all seem to forget that foot pods were invented primarily to allow you to record some kind of reasonable pace information as a component of your indoor runs and not as a highly precise speed or distance measuring instrument.

A: No, none of the Garmin Edge cycling devices allow use of the foot pod, it’s considered a different ANT+ device profile and isn’t one you can pair to the Edge devices. Though I should note this is actually a really common request from cyclists that occasionally run. Also of note is that the Edge series doesn’t display pace in Minutes/Mile, but rather only MPH (speed). Again, another highly requested feature from occasional runners that are primarily cyclists. But due to really bad weather those last few weeks, i had to run on treadmill couple of times. I selected the pace detection (on my FR910xt) on footpod and some display issue on my Watch appeared. The pace was display in m/sec instead of min/km (when using GPS detection outside). Following a few conversations with industry insiders, I’m now reasonably sure that Stryd has made efforts to protect its patent rights, as it should; and that this is why Coros no longer makes a running power pod and why Garmin never made one. You can see from the images that the retention mechanism is similar to the old Garmin footpod and rd-pod, so it will fit nicely into a new style cradleto go on your laces. I’ve not seen the new cradle. It definitely sends a BLE signal according to the FCC specs and you would assume ANT+ as well. ie Polar and Suunto users may also be happy. So I will log the distance of outdoors walks and hikes with my 910XTs and parallely my Fenix 6X can fulfil its original mission, it will be able to use it distance-related algorithms based on GPS data and internal accelerometers. Bluetooth wireless connectivity then fires your power stats to either to the partner smartphone app (so you can use Stryd without a running watch) or to one of a long list of compatible GPS running watches or running services so you can see your running power in real time on your wrist. Water-resistant– the Garmin Running Dynamics Pod is entirely water-proof. This is a feature that offers you the flexibility to function and also run under any type of scenario. I finally got my fenix3 and a second foot pod so I can answer a few of my own questions as well as Herve’s.
