About this deal

If rum had the rules and regulations of Scotch or Bourbon this stuff wouldn't even be allowed to market itself as rum. Small batch?!? LOL! Next time you're in the Philippines I dare you to visit this charming boutique distillery... Perhaps spend an evening sampling their rum and experiencing the terroir of the region. I'm sure a day at the distillery, which absolutely isn't some industrial beverage facility, would be very beautiful and romantic... Special Delivery Requests? Founded by entrepreneur Stephen Carroll, together with Andrew John Garcia, Dom Papa Rum has gone from strength to strength since its launch in 2012, consistently outperforming the market in Europe. It is currently available in 30 countries, with France, Germany and Italy being its largest markets. The palate arrives much as expected. That candy-coated fruit character endures, here folding in some mint, more toasted coconut, and a bit of strawberry into that orange-dominated body. The finish eventually sees a bit of astringency (that classic petrol note so common with rum) that the sugar can’t quite cover up, though frankly, given the overwhelming rush of sweetness that comes before, this rustic character is almost a relief. Don Papa Small Batch Rum is produced by the Bleeding Heart Rum Company on the southern island of Negros in the Philippines. The rum is distilled from molasses, then aged for over 7 years in American oak barrels, and lastly charcoal filtered. The super-premium plus segment of the rum category is in the early stages of premiumisation, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18% in Europe and 27% in the US between 2016-2021. Through the same period, Don Papa Rum consistently outperformed the market in Europe, delivering a 29% CAGR*. This rum is a cynical cash grab concocted by corporate marketers and ad men attempting to appeal to the discerning drinker. And by "discerning" I mean: has money and knows diddly squat about spirits, especially rum.Look, the truth is that this is industrially produced cane sugar/molasses-based (I'm being generous here) ethanol which has been gussied up with all manner of sweeteners, artificial flavours, colours and god knows what else (glycerol and vanillan at least, according to lab tests) to make it palatable -- and it isn't! Bad enough that they call it rum, but it commits an even greater sin than playing fast and loose with the truth -- it tastes bad! It could be compared to the Arcane Extraroma from Mauritius for its very fruitful taste and it probably shares with the Arcane the addition of cane syrup, even probably flavored cane syrup (artificially flavored or naturally, this is what remains to be determined in my opinion). There is controversy among rum enthusiasts regarding the use of additives such as glycerin, vanillin, added sugar, caramel color and other ingredients in the production of Don Papa. Some contend that because of the use of such ingredients and their impact on flavor profile and texture, Don Papa should be labeled "Imitation Rum" instead. [8] A class action suit has been filed in May 2022 in Illinois alleging that Don Papa should not be labeled "Rum", as the undisclosed use of additives could be misleading consumers. [9] See also [ edit ] Don Papa was first introduced in Bacolod in 2012, then Manila later that same year. [3] The brand has since become available in international markets such as the United Kingdom and Spain. [3] Don Papa became available in the United States in 2017. [4]
