About this deal

Of course I had to ask Sylvie to smell the pure liquid civet bottle on the right below (synthetic of course). Yes I am brave!

By 1860, the brand had three factories in Paris, Aubervilliers, and Grasse. Still in operation, the last one carries out raw material blending, concentrate maturation, alcohol integration, and maceration. As the L.T. Piver perfume company has always sourced its own ingredients, its internal know-how offers a singular olfactory signature, while guaranteeing the confidentiality of formulas. Last September, during the Tax-Free (TFWA) trade show in Cannes, my colleague Miguel Matos met the new owner of L.T. Piver, Nelly Chenelat. Here he talks about the evolution of this historic company. I recently also had the opportunity to chat with Nelly Chenelat and the brand's new in-house perfumer, Joëlle Lerioux, to discuss the wind of renewal blowing through the brand in more detail. A buyer’s premium of 17.5% of the hammer price is payable on each lot in Antiques and Interiors sales, 20% in Specialist sales and 20% in Fine Art sales. The buyer’s premium is subject to VAT at the current rate. Live online bidding is also available via Tennants Livewith an additional charge of 1.5% for this service. Please visit www.tennants.co.ukto register. In 1896, Jacques Roucher, director of the Paris Opera, took over the company's reins. A visionary, he foresaw that the newly developed syntheticswould modernize perfumery and surrounded himself with creative chemists. Trèfle Incarnat (1898) was born, one of the great successes of the Belle Époque. He grewthe brand thanks to the rise of advertising and multiplied the number of international branches. At the dawn of the 1920s, this French company (whose motto was "L.T. Piver perfumes the whole world!") was one of the few companies that made more than half of its sales abroad.Whilst every effort will be made to execute absentee bidding, TENNANTS cannot be held responsible for any default or neglect in connection with this service. All such arrangements therefore are made entirely at the prospective buyer’s risk.

Our story begins in 1774 in Paris at a perfume store called "A la Reine des Fleurs". Behind the counter stood Michel Adam, a dynamic individual who, in a matter of years, rose to become the official purveyor to the court of Louis XVI and subsequently to the royal families of Europe. Passing the family tradition from his son in 1799 to Pierre Guillaume Dissey, a close relative who later handed over the reins to Louis Toussaint Piver who began the Piver dynasty. The new products, however, will have a premium positioning, and new extracts or fragrances will be designed. It is a creative work in its own right, drawing on the brand’s heritage, for which Joëlle Lerioux endeavours to paraphrase the olfactory signature, not to betray its DNA, while preserving its quality. This continuity is based in particular on the brand’s craftsmanship, which was passed on, and on its autonomy.

First, a blast of cedar wood with a light, pleasant turpentine moment, then it settles down to be a very light wood scent with a touch of bergamot. Througout the years that I've been working at Fragrantica, I've made a lot of friends in the perfume industry. One of the best relationships I have developed is the one I have with Sylvie Dumontier, from L.T. Piver and E. Coudray. After the many articles I've written on these brands and so many joyful encounters in perfume expos, she invited me to visit the Piver factory in Chartes, near Paris. I was very excited to do this and, a year after the invitation, I decided to go. To boost the brand’s renewal, Nelly Chenelat has decided to rely on the olfactory richness of fragrances that survived the past few years without any communication support, thus opening up numerous perspectives. L.T. Piver’s flourishing heritage, a source of inspiration and an ideal basis for storytelling, represents another asset, as is its global dimension, since it sells over 2 million units worldwide (in the Caribbean, the United States, the Middle-East, Cambodia, etc.). In addition to all this, the new owner says, L.T. Piver stands out thanks to its quality craftsmanship. The new products, on the other hand, will have a premium positioning, with the creation of extraits de parfumandnew fragrances. This is a fully-fledged creative effort, drawing on the brand's heritage, withJoëlle Lerioux committed to paraphrasing the olfactory signature of L.T. Piver, making sure not to betray its DNA and to preserve its quality. The royalty charge for qualifying items which achieve a hammer price of more than the UK sterling equivalent of €1,000, but less that the UK sterling equivalent of €50,000 is 4%. For qualifying items that sell for more than the UK sterling equivalent of €50,000 a sliding scale of royalty charges will apply. For a complete list of the royalty charges and threshold levels please refer to www.dacs.org.uk. There is no VAT payable on this royalty charge. L.T. Piver was one of the founding houses of French perfumery. In 1813, Louis-Toussaint Piver took over an enterprise that had been founded On July 8, 1774 by Michel Adam, "maître gantier parfumeur versaillais", in a shop at 82, rue des Lombards in Paris under the name "A la Reine des Fleurs".
