About this deal

But while we saw Xiaomi announce both the Xiaomi 12S Ultra and Xiaomi 13 Pro using Sony’s IMX989 sensor last year, neither of them have been released internationally (yet). I prefer this system to dedicated macro modules, and the X90 Pro can dial in on subjects just 4cm away — I got a lot of detailed macro shots out of the device. I liked what MediaTek did last year with the Dimensity 9000 and was keen to take a look at this year's offering. The software upgrade promise of three years of OS updates and four years of security updates isn’t bad at all either. Battery life is up there with the rest of the flagships in 2023 despite having a slightly smaller 4,870mAh than the 5,000mAh battery found within high-end competitors including the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and OnePlus 11.

This is in line with what Xiaomi offers on its devices as well, and while you get one less platform update than the likes of Samsung and OPPO, this is still a positive move from Vivo.A big differentiator for Vivo this year is the fact that it is using MediaTek's latest Dimensity 9200 platform. It also doesn’t do anything exciting or exceptional, lacking premium features like Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos present in most high-end alternatives, nor does it offer any kind of desktop compatibilities like Samsung’s DeX or Motorola’s ReadyFor. The Vivo’s chipset isn’t quite as good and the screen isn’t as high resolution as the S23 Ultra's, but those are about the only weak links on paper. You get a lot of Zeiss styles when using the portrait mode, and it adds a fun dimension to the photos.

It’s admittedly a small thing that most users will overlook within days of use, but I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t prefer a nice flat display.Vivo unveiled the X90 series in China back in November 2022, and the X90 Pro made its global debut at Mobile World Congress in February. My only real complaint is that 2x zoom is a little bit limited compared to other 2023 flagships like the Galaxy S23’s 3.
