About this deal

The display does little to change my feeling about the pen; it’s clearly been designed for entertainment and office users as opposed to creatives. Of course, Pixel Slate looks a lot like the leaks that made it out through the second half of this year. The ‘Midnight Blue’ matte aluminum finish wraps this 7mm-thin (0.27 inches) tablet like a glove, and shines under direct light – it also feels cool to the touch. Some of the best features of the Google Pixel Slate are its high-quality display, fast processor, and long battery life. The display has a resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixels and is excellent for viewing photos and videos. The processor is a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip, which makes the device very fast and responsive. The battery life is also excellent – it can last up to 10 hours in normal use.

In the main Settings screen, under “Display,” you’ll see a selection of languages and resolutions to choose from. Tap one of these options to begin customizing your display. Underneath that, you’ll find options for sound, keyboard & input methods, and more. Finally, under “Advanced settings,” scroll down until you see the option to create a new user account. At first glance, the display is simply popping in color and contrast, but even 400 nits of brightness isn’t enough to counter the glare produced by a glossy panel under sunlight. The display’s pixel density of 293 pixels per inch (ppi) downright trounces the 12.9-inch iPad Pro’s of 264. All-in-all, my only concerns regarding performance would be around the Celeron version. Past Chromebooks I’ve tested with identical specs have been prone to chugging when performing even moderately demanding tasks such as multi-tab web browsing. The speaker setup is another key inclusion that differentiates the Pixel Slate from other Chrome OS and Windows tablets. On its front, you’ll see twin dual-speakers that Google claims are “custom-tuned to deliver industry-leading audio”. Using the tablet to watch Netflix in bed, I can confirm that there’s truth to this claim.

The only performance issues I encountered occurred when trying to use Android apps. Most worked fine, but a number – including popular games such as PUBG – either failed to launch properly or regularly crashed. This is likely a software, not hardware, issue. The Google Pixel Slate tablet has been created with an Intel Core M3 processor and 8GB RAM. With a battery that will last up to 12 hours and weighting just 720g, this is a highly portable as tablet, that’s ready to take on work tasks and help with some casual gaming. Featuring 8GB of RAM, this computer has enough power for casual tasks like web browsing and word processing as well as more demanding jobs like complex spread sheets and image manipulation. Front camera: Duo Cam optimized for video calling: 8MP, ƒ/1.9 aperture, 1.4um pixel size, wide field of view, 1080p video at 30fps Creation Consumer Finance Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (Register no. 311518).

The Pixel Slate is available in a variety of configurations, which you can see in the table below. SpecIn many ways the Pixel Slate delivers on this promise, including top-notch hardware and intelligently presented software. If you mainly use Google’s suite of apps then the i5, or even M, configuration of the Pixel Slate makes for an excellent tablet and basic laptop replacement.

The dual speakers are noticeably meatier than the iPad (regular) and Samsung Galaxy Book against which I tested it. Bass extension was deeper and audio in films was significantly clearer. Tonal balance is better than expected for a tablet, making it easy to hear voices even during heated action scenes with rumbling engines and rattling gunfire. The only tablet I’ve tested with better audio is the Huawei MediaPad. That said, Google has vastly improved Chrome OS to make it a more viable 2-in-1 computer operating system. It will take a full review for us to suss out just who this device is best suited for, if anyone or simply everyone. Until then, we're uncertain of the Pixel Slate’s ability to combat the iPad Pro or Surface Pro as a primo 2-in-1 productivity tablet.CON:The Pixel Slate is not cheap and may not be affordable for everyone. Furthermore, its battery life is not as good as some other laptops on the market. The Best Features of the Google Pixel Slate With dual front-firing speakers, the Google Pixel Slate delivers a great surround sound experience, while the 2 inbuilt microphones provide improved noise cancellation for your filming or video chats. Choose which apps have access to your microphone To limit which apps have access to your microphone, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Microphone . Here you’ll find a list of all the apps that have permission to use your mic—including voice-activated assistants like Siri and Alexa! Battery life is one area Chrome OS devices usually excel compared to laptops. In the convertible space things are a little more competitive, however, since iOS remains one of the most power-efficient operation systems ever made. The bottom navigation bar has shortcuts to installed apps, plus a battery icon and shortcut to basic settings for items such as Wi-Fi and screen brightness. On the left is a handy shortcut to Google Assistant. Google Assistant remains a key selling point; it’s step above Microsoft’s Cortana and Apple’s Siri in nearly every way.
