About this deal

The canine restraint was dynamically tested under the conditions outlined in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 213 Child Restraint Systems (FMVSS 213). The canine restraint was installed on the canine crash test mannequin per the manufacturer’s (Ruffwear) instructions and then secured to the test bench restraint system. FMVSS 213 employs a standard bench seat that represents the rear seating environment of an automobile. The seat bench and add on restraint was then subjected to the 30 mph generic frontal crash pulse detailed in FMVSS 213. One thing to keep in mind is that acar harness isn’t necessarily the best harness for walking. Car restraints need to be tough and durable to withstand high forces, but this can make them heavy and more difficult to put on.

This is a good quality, well-made product that compares favourably in price with similar safety restraints. Available in sizes small, medium, and large, and it has adjustable straps that help ensure a good fit. Yes. As part of our product development process, we tested prototypes of the Load Up™ Harness at MGA Research Corporation ( http://mgaresearch.com/), an independent test facility. A car harness needs to be comfortable, durable and easy to adjust – just like a regular one. There are some extra considerations when choosing a harness for a car though, such as: When looking for a car-safe harness, my criteria are that it mustbe both crash-tested and adjustable. While comfort is also important, it comes secondary to the safety of the harness.

One tip which can work exceptionally well is to stand your dog on an ironing board. By lifting them up to your height it will make your job of measuring easier and your dog is more likely to stand still. Because it’s designed with comfort in mind, the Kurgo Tru-fit no pull dog harness can also be used as a no-pull walking harness. There’s a halt ring on the front chest plate. If your pup tries to pull, it will just turn him around effectively training him that pulling will get him nowhere! The RAC wouldn’t put their name to any old product, which means you can be reassured of a well-made product that won’t disintegrate after a few uses. However, you should be aware that this safety equipment does not claim to pass a crash-test at 30 mph. This means it’s main benefit is that it secures the dog in one place in the car. Keeping your dog still and secure during a long car journey can be a challenge, but have you ever considered a dog car harness? They are great for keeping pups comfortable, cosy and happy when travelling.

In many ways, you’ll want to treat your dog like you would a baby or small child. This means not only using an appropriate harness but also making sure that they ride in the safest part of the car. For the restraints, we enlisted the help of Doris the poodle to judge ease of use. Then we tried universal-fit dog guards in two cars – a Land Rover Discovery 4 and Vauxhall Astra – to see if they fitted well in a pair of quite different vehicles. We judged their ‘dog proof’ abilities, how easy they were to fit, and whether they damaged the car and remained rattle-free on a journey. Final factor was price. Verdict Although some harnesses are sold as a set along with the seatbelt attachment, others may sell the attachment separately.A strong car harness can protect your dog in the unfortunate event of a collision, while also making sure they are secure and can’t cause distractions. It’s vital to get a product that’s crash-tested and adjustable though, otherwise it may not provide much protection. Our goal in offering the Load Up™ Harness is to equip dogs to hit the open road with a comfortable, easy-to-use vehicle restraint harness that's built strong to withstand the rigors of sudden vehicle movements. Most cages are only designed to contain a dog, to stop it getting into the driver's area. They'll provide no protection to the humans in the vehicle except in a slow speed collision, and no protection to the dog either. The PRO range is designed to protect both humans and dogs, thanks to the use of energy absorbing materials and intelligent design, all tested and approved by the German TÜV. Which size is right? A simple solution is a dog harness that attaches to the seat belt. Unfortunately, while most harnesses are great for preventing distractions, many don’t have the strength to protect your canine friend in an accident (the same goes forcar seats). Standard harnesses often have a basic “seat belt” loop, but in a high-speed collision this will almost certainly break. Even dog harnesses labelled as suitable for cars may not provide much protection.

To prevent reactions between treatments and collar materials, collars should be removed during use of liquid flea treatments. Travel harnesses with such a good safety profile are few and far between. The brilliant thing about the Easy Rider is that it offers that elusive combination of proven safety and an affordable price tag. By far the most popular crashed tested dog car harness is by the well-known Kurgo brand. It’s available in a choice of three different styles and six sizes to best suit the requirements of your dog. Fortunately, there are ways you can help mitigate these dangers and keep your beloved bestie safe when riding around town. As you would expect from such a strong harness, it’s not the lightest or most convenient for walking. It can still be used for short walks though – and even has reflective strips for improving night-time visibility. I’d be wary of it being too hot in warm weather though. It’s also probably too restrictive for long walks.

However, we’ve also found two other harnesses that have been put through testing protocols we’re at least partially comfortable with. Neither was tested by the CPS, but we believe they still warrant inclusion. The harness has been tested at an established University testing facility using the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard for child restraint systems. It has been tested for dogs up to 75 pounds. For maximum crash protection and to limit excursion, you should use the included carabiner to attach the harness to your car seat belt system. A harness that fits a dog properly and does not come close to the throat should be harmless and comfortable. Dog owners should make sure all leads, collars and harnesses do not apply pressure to the throat. This can damage the dog's thyroid, esophagus, and trachea.

Look for harnesses that have comfortable, wide straps. Although safety (and passing common safety standards) is the most important aspect of a car harness, you’ll also want to make sure it fits your dog comfortably and doesn’t cause discomfort. Wide straps help spread out the forces on your dog and provide a much more comfortable fit than narrow straps do. As mentioned, we do include one harness that doesn’t quite live up to the standards we’d prefer, but we do so only because we wanted to include an affordable option for cash-strapped owners. Unlike with a walking harness, their weight is not a concern here, so the right harness for your dog on a lead may not be secure enough for them in the car. Seatbelt Fastening Several types of goods are exempt from being returned. Perishable goods such as food, flowers, newspapers or magazines cannot be returned. We also do not accept products that are intimate or sanitary goods, hazardous materials, or flammable liquids or gases. If your dog is your fur-baby then you’ll want ‘human standard’ safety. This EzyDog car harness offers just that. It was test to and passed the EU ECE Regulation 16 standard, which is also the standard to which child safety restraints are tested. Although expensive, the EzyDog Drive is a high quality safety tested dog car harness that’s easy to use and provides maximum comfort for your dog. For complete peace of mind, the harness has also been tested in the USA and Australia (as well as Europe), which is a testament to the safety of the harness. Sizing tends to come up small, with big jumps between the one size and the next one up. Does not appear to be crash tested. Impressive safety standard accreditation. We love how the car’s inertia reel seatbelt simply slides through the D-ring to secure your dog – super simple!
