About this deal

Couldn't agree more, someone at the office has a V50 without spoiler and rails and I have to say it looks like it's unfinsihed. Have seen cars with the spoiler, but without the rails and they also look wrong somehow. I would appreciate if you can comment (be honest please) if the car looks better without the rails. Lease & Subscription, which are Hire Agreements will be entered into by UK Automotive Solutions Ltd which is an Appointed Representative of Volvo Car UK Limited, authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, Firm Reference No. 678616. The roof bars attach to the Volov V50 vehicle using a clamping system which uses the edge of the door/window frame.

If the rails were like those on the audi's, really low slung and in silver it may have looked a winner but these clothes hangers are horrendous in my eyes. I never bought the car new so did not have the option to bin it from the start. VCUK had them on from the start. its easier for me to wash and polish the roof. There is already an acre of metal there to work on and having the rails makes it a bit awkward for me unless of course I am above six foot six. These roof bars are manufactured in Italy by CAM to very high standards and comply with European Standards TUV & GS. Maximum loading on roof bars of 50kg. Sadly this seems rather expensive just to improve the looks. Maybe I should post in the parts for sale section if someone wants to get me a pair of plastic trims for my car, they can have my roof rails with all the screws. Even have the fitting instructions in PDF. Yes I double confirmed today with a dealer. So for anyone that wants to remove the rails, its roughly gonna cost GBP290 at a dealer.

If it’s not very expensive then I will seriously consider removing the rails. If it’s expensive to buy those trim strips then I will have to see if I can sell the rails cheap to offset some costs. Just the other day I saw another V50 without rails but with the bodykit. Looks smart. I think I will try again to see if I can get the costs down. Just found a painter here in nottingham (Allen Perry) so if I can get the drain covers cheap either in europe or breakers, I may dump the rails. Its been an utter waste of time these rails. I suspect its what keeps the fuel consumption like a drunkard with free petrol. My T5 never gives anything more than 33.6mpg with cruise set on 65mph on the motorway.

I too was in a quandry regarding having them on/off. After much thought I decided to keep them on. I've seen v50's with and without the rails and whilst the car does look a cleaner shape without them I feel that one of the attractions of the v50 is that it is a particularly attractive car - an attractive car that happens to be an estate (sorry sportwagon :)) and the rails accentuate that fact. It also helps to lift up the sloping roof line a bit, along with the spoiler on the boot lid - i think there are pro's and con's for each - There is also a good chance that i might use them !

VOLVO V50 Roof Racks with Thule WingBars - Silver or Black

But just to get your opinions on point 1, here are two pictures of my car. One with the rails on as it is now and the other, photo-doctored by me showing the car without the rails. When selecting the best roof bars for Volvo V50 you need to understand your budget, what you'll be carrying and the style of bar you'd like on the roof of your vehicle. If you plan on using your roof bars a couple of times a year for small trips or weekends away then a cheaper roof bar set may be more appealing. If you're someone who's looking for something more aesthetically pleasing in design or who regular transports bulky equipment on their car then spending a bit more can prove to be more efficient in the long run. How do you fit roof bars to my Volvo V50?
