Shimano Tiagra 4700 groupset | road.cc Review: Shimano Tiagra 4700 groupset | road.cc

Was helping a mate upgrade his gearing on his Tiagra equipped bike. Pointed him to the cassette and longer cage mech he needed. I installed the parts for him and for the life of me I couldn’t get the indexing dialled in. I’ve done a bit of digging and it seems in its latest iteration Shimano have changed the pull ratio to be the same as that of the 11 speed components. So new shifter is needed. Am I correct in thinking a 105 11 speed shifter would work? obviously the 11th index would not be used but other than that should work fine? Lots of second hand 105 shifters out there but not many new Tiagra ones. The latest caliper brake design from Shimano is called SLR-EV Dual Pivot - this is available on 105, Ultegra, and Dura-Ace, so not Tiagra. Shimano says: "Offering progressive all-road performance and an even better introduction to road cycling...The new TIAGRA 4700 adopts key technologies featured on Shimano's other race-proven group sets, DURA-ACE, ULTEGRA and 105.Like Ultegra, the new R7000 105 derailleurs has taken on some of the features of Shimano’s mountain bike derailleurs. It is now a Shadow rear derailleur. The 105 and Tiagra dual-pivot brakes are where things get interesting. The 105 brakes are actually heavier than the Tiagra brakes. That doesn’t mean you should save money here, as the 105 brakes offer a few advantages over the Tiagra brakes. The differences are that the 105 front derailleur is suitable for 11-speed use and a large chainring of between 46 and 53 teeth while the Tiagra one (below) is 10-speed compatible and takes a large chainring of between 46 and 52 teeth. (If you want to use a chainring larger than 53-teeth, Shimano says you have to go all the way up to a top level Dura-Ace front derailleur). You can also get a Tiagra front derailleur that’s suitable for use with a triple chainset. no offence, but it was obvious fact since the 47.. came out, that it uses a different actuation ratio as that of older 10 spd components.

Shimano Tiagra groupset review | Cycling Weekly

As commenters have pointed out, the 105 chainset is significantly lighter than the Tiagra, but is reported to work fine in an otherwise Tiagra set up, so if you have a Tiagra bike, a 105 is a worthwhile upgrade. Front derailleurBoth groupsets use the same material to make the front derailleur. This is aluminum coupled with a chain guide that is stainless steel and then chrome-plated. A key difference between 105 and Tiagra is that the 105 is intended for 11-speed and the large chainring has teeth between 46 and 53. I have the 5800 cranks and the teeth aren't hollow. The big ring is a 3D forging and there is a ring of hollow dimples around the inside edge below the teeth to save weight. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed Shimano have done a good job with the colour of the tiagra stuff though. Squint, and it could be ultegra.

Another difference between these groupsets is the stopping ability and performance in the braking system. Shimano 105 vs Tiagra and 105 steals it. You get better control and it's easier to gain it. Tiagra has cables that are routed underneath the handlebar tape like the higher level Shimano groupsets, a feature that was a long time coming to the budget groupset. If you have smaller hands, then the R7000 brakes are likely to work better. This is because the lever does sit more closely to the handlebar than ST-R7020 levers. Shimano says both 105 and Tiagra have room for tyres up to 28mm wide. However, the latest 105 R7000 brakes have slightly more drop (the distance from the mounting bolt to the brake pads) than before: 51mm v 49mm. That implies you should be able to run 30mm tyres with the right frame.I'm not sure. I've bodged plenty things to an adequate standard before - if you're buying relatively expensive new kit it's nice if it works sweetly! Keep the mech but change the cassette (and chain) for 11spd items? With the 11-speed 105 groupset, there has been quite a lot of technology which has filtered down from the top groupsets of Dura-Ace and Ultegra. The Tiagra groupset is heavier. As with pretty much everything in road cycling, you pay more to have lighter components. Dual Brake Levers - Mechanical I don't understand where the leverage ratio comes in to the degree that the brakes won't work, and thus must be used with...

SHIMANO TIAGRA 4700 | SHIMANO BIKE-US

Tiagra 4700 is the latest groupset from Shimano to get a makeover, and in doing so it has made Tiagra the best it's ever been. On its own, it's not quite as good as the more expensive 105, but if you're buying a new bike with Tiagra 4700, you won't be disappointed. Shimano says: "For the first time in its history TIAGRA supports internal cable routing, which gives the road bike a much more clean and professional look. Along with internal cable routing TIAGRA has also adopted the iconic four-arm crank design which is available in the popular gear combination for entry level riders of 52-36T and 50-34T. With the standard pitch cycle (bolt circle) diameter of 110mm both chain ring combinations are interchangeable because they fit on the same crank set. Can you please advise what options i have (in terms of cassettes and a different derailleur) if i'd like a 9 speed set up to 28-30 (T)The lightness needed in shifting is similar (if not the same) to that of an Ultegra or Dura-Ace setup. Does anyone know if the Tiagra hydraulic brifters would work with the br-ur300 flat mount disc brakes? When it comes to rear derailleurs, this is where the 105 groupset differs from the Tiagra. The 105 R7000 is very different from the previous 105 models. It stems from the Ultegra R8000 design from the previous year.
