About this deal

La Sportiva's TX4 Mid GTX take the classic approach shoe and add more support with this Mid design. They are still made with a solid sole, leather outer and Gore-Tex lining. They feature everything you want in an approach shoe with extended rubber bumpers around the toes, along the sides and up the heels along with the added support of the mid cut around the ankle. A strong, effective lacing system allows you to get the most comfortable fit and the large pull loop on the heel makes getting them on much easier too. The Gore-Tex lining helps keep out the wet on days when the weather is not on your side.

Cushioning under the heel is moderate and as I would expect from an approach shoe while the mid and front areas only have light cushioning. It’s worth remembering that this isn’t a general hiking boot so I wouldn’t expect it to be as heavy or have as much padding. Lined with Gore-Tex, the TX4 Mid is completely waterproof and allows them to be used in wetter environments as well as during climbing situations. As well as a Gore-Tex membrane, they also feature a full suede leather upper for durability and added water resistance. Ventilation plays a crucial part in your hiking experience. You want to walk in a pair of hiking boots or mountaineering boots that allow your feet to breathe but not so open that they pose a risk to injuries. The TX4 GTX is a shoe that offers excellent stability, good grip and effective protection on the front of the shoe with its rubber toe cap In addition, a wide protective edge wraps around the shoe to protect you from impacts. Its low lacing allows the foot to be well wrapped for good precision, better foot support and more comfort.Finding the right hiking shoes or hiking boots for your outdoor activities is vital for the health of your feet. You want to ensure you get the perfect hiking shoes or mountaineering boots that fit and blend with where and how you walk. I found them a little hot in the summer but only rarely where they uncomfortable. For me, they provide the perfect balance between protection and breathability, and I certainly wouldn’t want a boot with less protection just for the sake of cooler feet – next time I may get the version without Gore-Tex as I suspect this reduces breathability of the boot. Be sure to choose a water resistant material for your waterproof hiking boots or mountaineering boots with insulation features for when the seasons change. Hiking Shoes At the toe, there is a climbing zone, which is a smooth area of rubber for maximising traction on narrow footholds; again, this will help scramblers and climbers alike and is rarely found on regular hiking footwear. The soles of the TX4 are made by Vibram, the leading manufacturer of soles for climbers, hikers and walkers.

The boot upper is made from suede leather and mesh, and despite some heavy usage over the last 24 months, there’s no sign of wear and tear problems. The La Sportiva TX4 GTX Approach Shoes is a rugged and sturdy, with uppers made of hard-wearing leather and their PU Tech Lite rand giving it enhanced torsion, stability and a “built to last” appearance. You get an aggressive, in your face sole unit provided in this instance by the industry leaders Vibram. The sole unit meets a rubber toe box that looks like it could belong to a climbing shoe and even includes a climbing zone/edge for precision footwork, and a “break” system to assist on steep exists. The comparison to climbing shoes doesn’t stop here though, with a lacing system taken from their Mythos climbing model that offers better volume and tension control throughout the length of the shoe. Lacing: Mythos patented lacing system, very low to ensure better foot support and optimal adjustment of the shoe volume Leather shoe with Gore-Tex Extended Comfort designed for technical approach routes and via ferrata, part of the Traverse X approach series: ideal for prolonged use by mountain guides and all those who work in the mountains.

For waterproof hiking boots, you can also factor in water-resistance, stability and warmth. You do not want to go hiking, only to get frostbites from the cold. The TX series include three variations, TX2 – a climbing focused approach shoe, TX3 – mix terrain walking shoe, and TX4 – a mountaineering model designed for technical routes, scrambling and hiking. In this case I opted for the TX4 with a Goretex lining for added protection against the infamous Welsh weather…..rain not being an uncommon factor even in the summer season. At Addnature, it's our mission to provide you with the best hiking shoes in the industry. That is why you can shop with us for any hiking boots, whether mountaineering boots or waterproof hiking boots. Impact Brake System Designed by Vibram, this innovative system integrated into the sole absorbs impacts, improves grip on descents and helps on ascents by boosting traction. Thanks to the arrangement of the sole studs, the IBS offers clear advantages to the user by reducing the negative impact with the ground and placing less strain on the joints The TX4's are perfect all-rounder for just about everything outdoor-related, with every detail, studied to guarantee grip, comfort and protection in a wide range of conditions. The slightly large fit and wide toe box—built for comfort and stability—may be too roomy for those with low-volume or narrow feet.I found that the rounded lugs gave me plenty of grip on a variety of hard surfaces from gritty sandstone to shiny quartz. STB Control System™: the upper wraps the midsole in the medial zone increasing stability on traverse routes and wraps around the foot for a comfortable and precise fit.

If you’ve tried on any shoe in the TX lineup, you know the drill: both the sizing and fit of these shoes are unique. For starters, most people find that they run large, so if you’re on the fence, we recommend sizing down a half size from your normal number. I have the TX2, TX3, and TX4, and wear a size 8 in all three instead of my usual 8.5. Second, both the TX3 and TX4 have a wide forefoot designed to increase both comfort and stability, which is uncommon from La Sportiva. As someone who has a particularly wide foot, I really love the fit of these shoes. However, if you have a narrow or low-volume foot, you’ll likely find the TX4 to be far too roomy. In the end, if this is your first pair of shoes from the TX lineup, we recommend trying on before you buy, or at least purchasing from an online marketplace with a lenient return and exchange policy. Hiking is quite an engaging physical activity that requires you to be invested. That means choosing your gear appropriately. When going on a hike, forget flashy wear, fashionable and trendy shoes and go for functionality-such a move helps leave your feet in good shape. The La Sportiva TX4 is a sturdy “built to last” approach shoe, with the "STB Control System™" that provides structure and torsion stability. I’d always considered myself a “Boot Man”, but recently I’ve been tempted by a lighter more flexible option for the hills. Having spent the summer legging it round the Welsh mountains like a lemming in what you would call “Full Boots”, I’ve come to the conclusion that on the right terrain and in right weather conditions, less is more…. Plenty of technology, a very lightweight feel and an overall great performance. We like this boot. Tester’s Verdict
