About this deal

First published in 1989 to meet the needs of the growing fashion knitting community, Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Knitting Book instantly became a trusted and beloved resource for knitters. I still have so much to learn and my next big project is a beautiful sweater for my husband, so the extra tips and tricks were greatly appreciated. This has only increased over recent years as knitting books have moved further away from simply collections of patterns for the knitter, towards a place where creators muse on the politics and meaning of knitting. My god this really has EVERYTHING (Well almost: I do think it could use some more examples of techniques as shown on finished objects as opposed to swatches, and obv it can’t show EVERY cast on or knit/purl patterning. I love knitting and learning more about the mechanics of it, and this book is going to help me really learn the finer details of this craft.

I've been using it to give me an idea of what sorts of things I don't know but need to know (this book helps with the "I don't know what I don't know").I love the drawn techniques; they make so much more sense to me than descriptions or even watching YouTube videos. The latest edition of the Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Knitting Book, is a must own for any keen knitter. A not insignificant percentage of her free time is spent worrying about whether her cats like her as much as she likes them. This collection of garments to knit looks like it would be great fun and inject some much needed color into the dreary winter season.

Learning about different methods of casting on and binding off my knitting was a total game-changer for me. Pictures and sections within the book are well delineated and easy to read - important if you need to find something in a hurry. This is an amazing resource that covers every aspect of knitting you can think of, in enough detail to get you own your way. From beginners needing to learn the very basics to seasoned knitters wanting a refresher on a complex technique, every knitter will cherish this guide for years to come. Like reading Nigel Slater’s Christmas Chroniclesor sinking deep into Samin Nosrat’s Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat, there are people out there like Karie Westermann writing fascinating meditations on knitting, craft, feminism, and politics in her book This Thing of Paper that show the true power of knitting as a political and feminist act. This book clearly can't cover all cast ons and bind off's as seen in another popular reference either and I wouldn't expect it to unless it ran to a considerably larger book. The reference notes at the bottom tell you where explanations for things mentioned on that page are elsewhere in the book. She is an enthusiastic, if not experienced, seamstress and could win Olympic Gold Medals if only Procrasti-Sewing and Procrasti-Baking were recognised sports. The past 15 years have seen many exciting advances in knitting, and this update encompasses them all. The only think I would have liked in addition would be simple example patterns of things like socks or sweaters.

While this book does have some patterns, the biggest draw for me was the information on styles and techniques. Although I accept free products for review, I do not accept additional compensation, nor do I guarantee a positive review. This is the type of book that you can get as a beginner and keep with you as you learn more, or you can pick up as an advanced knitter to take you to the next level. If you have an interest in knitting OR simply don’t have this book yet, this is a great tool to have on hand for all those little questions that pop up during a new project. because I feel like the pictures showing you how to knit can be confusing so I end up looking them up on YouTube half the time.

Cross referencing to related techniques is at each page bottom which is good if you've forgotten which page something was on! One of the reasons I enjoy knitting so much is that it gives me a chance to browse a different type of book, a functional one, one that will help me create something.

I also bookmarked a few pages that covered some construction techniques that I don't have books on, so it's most definitely a gateway to just how diverse the wonderful world of knitting is! Hunter Hammerson’s Curls 2 looks like a great solution to this problem, they are well proportioned wraps designed to fit the wearer that work well no matter the gauge you are using. This book is much more comprehensive than most knitting books geared to beginners, and even though I am only a beginner knitter, I would imagine that even more experienced knitters would enjoy learning the advanced techniques. Existing reviews already confirm that this is an excellent resource for knitters of all levels and has buckets of useful information. Design and construction sections now include hats, mittens, socks, gloves, and more than 25 shawl shapes.I learned to Knit in school a long time ago, and though some things stayed with me a lot has not and I needed a reference book that could explain some stitches, problems etc. With updated, revised, and new material throughout, more than 70 additional pages, and more than 1,600 photos and hand-drawn step-by-step illustrations, Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Knitting Book, Completely Revised and Updated is surprisingly easy to navigate with thorough indexing and footnote cross-referencing. First published in 1989, Vogue Knitting The Ultimate Knitting Book instantly became a beloved resource for knitters.
