About this deal

The vibrant colours and distinctive lobed shape of their leaves make Maple trees a great addition to any garden or planting scheme. They can be trees or shrubs and come in a variety of shapes including upright, spreading, mound forming and round. The smaller varieties of Japanese Maple are ideal for any sized garden, with many being suitable for growing in a pot. For those with larger gardens, Norway and Red Maples create a stunning feature. Maple trees are all deciduous but if you want winter interest, choose Coral Bark or Snake Bark Maples for their colourful or patterned bark. This fungus also travels through the soil and can affect numerous different plants, including fruit and vegetables. Acer palmatum 'Kagiri-nishiki' - a strong but slow growing, variegated acer with beautiful bluish-green leaves which are margined in light pink tones and streaked with white. It has a dainty appearance and will make a lovely addition to any autumn garden as it adds interest in the cooler months.

If the fungus has only affected a very small section of an established Acer and the rest is unaffected, then you can try just pruning the damaged branches to the point that they are healthy. This fungus can develop when the conditions around the Acer become wetter than normal for a sustained amount of time.Acer palmatum 'Shaina' - a medium sized compact deciduous Acer, with an upright growth habit. Fantastic bright red spring leaves turn a brilliant dark red in summer, followed by bright crimson in autumn. It will grow to form a dense and compact globe of small red foliage - a slow growing Japanese maple that is an ideal selection for containers or small gardens. Prefers partial shade, but can tolerate full sun, as long as the plant is shaded for a small part of the day. Acer palmatum 'Shishigashira' - an upright palmatum producing think bunched-up curled leaves giving the acer a unique 'Lions Head' appearance. Even with a very small space most gardeners will be able to find room for at least one if not more acers.

Maintenance wise acers are not very demanding. Keep them well watered in their first 6 -12 months but after that they’ll only need watering during hot and dry spells. The exception here is if you have planted your acer in a container. In that case water them regularly - once a day at least in very hot weather.

Thank You

If your soil is heavy and prone to waterlogging, work in some grit, sand or stones to increase drainage. When a Japanese Acer has been grafted some leaf reversion may take place or incorrect growth from the grafted base. If this occurs, pinch or prune out the incorrect stems once the leaves have fully unfurled. Acer palmatum dissectum 'Crimson Queen' - a deciduous Acer has an upright weeping habit, creating a mushroom like display. Finely cut, fabulous deep purple-red leaves emerge from red buds followed by brilliant scarlet and orange hues in autumn. Containerised trees can be planted at any time of year providing your ground is not icy, snow-covered or water-logged. It's also best to avoid excessively windy days to avoid the risk of your plant being damaged if it accidentally topples over. If you have the choice, plant in the autumn at least one month before the first frost.

They are both a focal point and a focus of conversion. They make wonderful features and will be the crowning glory in any garden. They look simply majestic. Unfortunately by this stage it is often too late to save the plant, but if caught earlier before the roots decompose then action can be taken to rectify the situation. The plant you receive from us will be around two feet tall and will growing in a large 5 litre pot. Some acers can grow to well over 40 feet with a correspondingly large spread. On the face of it, acers don’t seem that suitable for small gardens. However, large acers are an exception rather than a rule and even those which grow the tallest will take decades to achieve their full height.Overwatering can cause this problem also, but a well draining soil will help to move the water away from the roots. This is especially important if the Acer is in a pot, or in a location that receives minimal natural rainfall. Consider planting your Acer in the ground, provided it is in a sheltered spot in well draining soil it should do well.
