About this deal

Bags #3 provide the remainder of the parts for the ground floor structure, the petrol pump and the awning above. The overall floor plan of the top story (bag group 5) is essentially identical to the middle story with the vet’s office, minus the central dividing wall perpendicular to the front wall. This makes the top floor fairly wide open, focused more on the interior details to which we’ll return later in this review. I think waist printing is suitable for many types of clothes specifically fitted for an hourglass look, particularly the original forms of clothing that introduced that type of printing (bodices/corsets). But it can definitely be overdone as well, particularly when used for articles of clothing like clothes that might not look any different from one wearer to the next, like a loose cloak or a bulky mascot costume.

Sand blue is a colour that doesn't get used as much as it should be. It complements the dark orange perfectly. The bay window is built using two sand blue train windows on their side. There's a view of the second floor, below, that shows how they are connected. I don't think I've seen them used in this way before. It looks excellent. The floor is divided into two: a waiting room on the left and the vet's room on the right. A fish tank, which you can't see very well at all in these pictures, is mounted in the wall above the single-seat chair in the waiting room. Remember I said I'd built the set away from home? The first two photos, taken during construction, were done in a makeshift studio in my daughter's kitchen but hopefully serve to show progress of building the ground floor adequately.Like the recent LEGO Star Wars set 75251 Darth Vader’s Castle, the initial reaction from LEGO fans and collectors has been mixed. But how does the set hold up when we look beyond the box photos and actually start building? One of our favorite details built into the garage is this rolling tool cabinet, which uses 1×2 plates with rails to evoke the drawers. New-for-January-2019 decorated elements include an animal clinic window, service station sign and a printed octane gas pump. There are two mechanics and a dog who work in Jo's Garage on the ground floor. Maybe it's old man Jo who it's named after or maybe young Jo. If the latter, the boss is not afraid to get her hands -- and face -- dirty by the looks of it.

At the end of the first bag, the ground floor is still only partially complete, though it includes all of its interior detail. The LEGO designers have made extensive use of the relatively new rounded 1×2 plate throughout the building, starting with the columns on either side of the door on the left side of the structure.

The completed model

The sixth and final set of bags includes the parts for the roof, which is a fairly simple construction with details largely focused on the studs-out cornice. At first sight the looks of this new modular are a bit bland compared to previous ones, but for the kind of utilitarian building it is supposed to be, I find it OK. It might not blend well with all the MB's, but i.m.o it will go fine with e.g. DO, PS, BB, FB and the likes who also have a bit a rougher look.

As with many buildings in the modular theme, LEGO has continued with the Americana feel. This garage looks like it would belong in many smaller cities in the United States circa 1950. It has many of the things you’d expect to find in a garage, for example: a tire changer, oil cans and tires for sale in the window, a car lift and a tool chest. The vehicles included in this set are a tow truc, and a classic Vespa-style scooter in 322 Medium Azur Medium Azure. The garage also houses the garage attendants and contains everything that comes with them. The Corner Garage includes six minifigs — two garage mechanics, a biker, veterinarian, young girl, and bachelor. With the vet’s office on the second floor, the set also includes several animal figures, including a dog, frog, rabbit, and fish. Both the second and third floors include a bay window on the right side, above the garage door. The bay windows are built from pairs of boat bridge windows on their sides, with a central 1×2 column of windows to fill the gap.

The bachelor can sit in his studio apartment’s living area and watch shows about bridges (another 2×2 printed tile) on his old-school television with a rabbit-ear antenna. Like last year's 10260 Downtown Diner this one takes inspiration from 1950's USA but unlike the diner, buildings with garages like it probably don't exist any more. Roll up the door to access Jo's vehicle workshop, complete with tire mounter and working vehicle lift. The little girl has a long braid and wears a striped pink shirt printed with a cat design. The man who lives above the vet’s shop wears the cableknit sweater first introduced in 21310 Old Fishing Store, while the vet wears a doctor’s coat. The fact it's a corner building, with a garage forecourt in front, has reduced the surface area of the actual building considerably but nevertheless I feel that what space there is has been put to good use. Perhaps the interior is not as detailed as in other modulars but I think what's been provided is adequate. The far side of the exam room features a desk with cluttered papers and a lamp along with another desk with a frog under a heating lamp and some medicine bottles. Stairs on the second floor lead to a hatch to provide access to the roof for sunbathing and gardening. I guess you can't satisfy everyone - if you try something different people will go "it doesn't fit with the others" and "this is the first modular I'm going to skip", if you go more traditional people will complain that "it looks bland and samey" or "it looks just like 10xxx in a different color". I also suspect those who complain the loudest are the ones who keeps their modulars in pristine condition, I usually modify mine so any issues can generally be sorted out. The most noteworthy aspect of the whole building is that the entire front wall is built at an angle across the base, using those rounded 1×2 plates we mentioned earlier to connect the front wall to each side.
