About this deal

You can be inspired by your own experiences. Ideas I had about Vikings and dragons during summer holidays when I was 9 years old became 12 books, and a film and TV series. I had a slightly unusual childhood (I spent my summers on an uninhabited Scottish Island), but the world we all live in is full of extraordinary, wonderful idea for stories. You only have to watch an episode of Blue Planet to see that’s true. Good lord, does Hiccup take charge in this book! There was very little of his typical "reluctant Hero" timidity here, while he still relied on his brains rather than his brawn (wait...what brawn?) to save the day. Cressida Cowell] puts a contemporary spin on the old brains over brawn moral and brings the story to a climax with a thrilling dragon duel. Lots for lots of different readers to enjoy. - Books for Keeps Fishlegs starts acting very strange and the village soothsayer and doctor declares that he has been bitten by a Venomous Vorpent and thus has Vorpentitis and if Hiccup is unable to find THE cure by the next morning, Fishlegs will die. The cure, he tells Hiccup, is in the village of Hysterics, a particularly gruesome group of Vikings whose chief Hiccup happened to shoot slap bang at the bottom the previous day. This marvelous cure is in fact, a POTATO. Hiccup ventures on this dangerous quest with his dragon, Toothless and friend Camicazi and together they not only manage to get the potato but also encounter an ENORMOUS dragon that haunts the sea near the Hysterics's village called the DOOMFANG.

He places the listener, in the story. Excellent with the variety of voices he does, to perfection !! I enjoyed each of David Tennant's, characters !!! http://www.audible.com/pd/Kids/How-to-Train-Your-Dragon-How-to-Cheat-a-Dragons-Curse-Audiobook/B00GU0LX3W/ref=a_search_c4_1_6_srTtl?qid=1387382660&sr=1-6 Headache with Temperature: Old Wrinkly's tasty medicine of sheep mucus and dead flies wrapped in cobwebs will soon have the patient bouncing out of bed.

Cressida wrote and illustrated her first picture book, Little Bo Peep’s Library Book, for Hodder Children’s Books in 1998. Her first novel for eight to twelve year olds, How to Train Your Dragon, was published to popular and critical acclaim in 2003: ‘The next big thing in children’s literature,’ wrote The Independent on Sunday. ‘Irresistibly funny, exciting and endearing,’ said The Times. FISHEGGS, I have misjudged YOU. Yes I have. A Chief has to be big enough to admit it when he is wrong. You are a little weirdo, it is true, but you are a LOYAL little weirdo, and one day when my son is Chief I have a felling he will need some loyal people about him.' Users who reposted HOW TO CHEAT A DRAGON'S CURSE by Cressida Cowell, Read by David Tennant - Audiobook Excerpt I always begin my stories with a map of my imaginary place. Lots of other authors have done the same – Robert Louis Stevenson drew a map of Treasure Island before starting to write. This is a really easy way of thinking about characters and setting. I've listned and re-listned all 12 HTTYD books and I just can't get enough of them. Dreamworks animated movies are great but this books are even better. the whole series is just a mosaic of increadable adventure stories so meticiously connected together into one epic tail of courage and kindness along with all the other elements of a great adventure; it is exciting and thrilling and full of unexpected twists and clif-hangers that keep you on your toes every moment troughout the story. There is also a lot of great humor that I absolutely loved and some of it even made me laugh out loud. And let me say, those are deffinetely NOT just kids books. They are full of great life lessons hidden in them that I doubt kids before 15 would even have been able to recognize. I found even some lessons on leadership and people management in it. Also motivational tips and lessons on responsability that comes with a position of power. All in all, this story is one that I would even compare to Harry Potter series in sense of quality of deapth that it offeres if you look at it more closely.

It's hard to beat this story for sheer entertainment and larger than life, distinctive - and differentiated characters.' - Books for Keeps It was exciting watching him disobey his father, take on the scariest tribe of Vikings - whose boss has a personal vendetta against Hiccup - with almost no assistance, steal a vegetable-that-in-this-review-shall-remain-unnamed, and face a gigantic sea monster to save his best friend's life. The only antidote is the Vegetable-that-No-one-Dares-Name – the POTATO. How to Cheat a Dragons Curse is one of my favorites of the series. It is less dark and serious than some of the other volumes towards the end of the series but it is like home for me. It is like meditation in sense that it really relaxes me and lets me forget my worries as I enjoy some sarcasm and dark humor and comedic aspects of all those mad characters their meaningfull names and how they find themselves in all kinds of crazy imposdible situations and all those unexpected solutions to their problems. There's some of the best humor and jokes, found in this one. Of course the performance of David Tennant is unbelievably entertaining as well as it paints every second of the story so alive with all the voices of the characters and all those funny accents that you can immediately get lost in it for several hours on end without even realising it. I could go on and on about it, really. I'm a fan. Fiercely exciting and laugh-aloud funny, it is as full of joy for children of 7+ who have given up reading as for those who love it.' - Amanda Craig, The Times Once again, I was most enamored of the epilogue. The words of the aged Hiccup serve to reinforce the lesson that being clever and fair bear greater results than employing brute force and malice. I found myself getting all misty-eyed over his gratitude and wonder. Hiccup never takes his good fortune for granted - mostly because he works damned hard to earn it. urn:lcp:howtocheatdragon00cowe:epub:5a2a6b40-a263-4af0-8126-75f4e85648a5 Extramarc University of Alberta Libraries Foldoutcount 0 Identifier howtocheatdragon00cowe Identifier-ark ark:/13960/t2n60xj52 Invoice 11 Isbn 031606758X Hiccup’s best friend Fishlegs thinks he has a nasty cold, but Old Wrinkly has diagnosed . . . VORPENTITIS, caused by the sting of a Venomous Vorpent, which is pretty much ALWAYS FATAL!Did not have the time with children's attention spans. But yes, I shall, listen to this in its entirety !! Cressida Cowell grew up in London and on a small, uninhabited island off the west coast of Scotland. She was convinced that there were dragons living on this island, and has been fascinated by dragons ever since. She has a BA in English Literature from Oxford University, a BA in Graphic Design from St Martin's and an MA in Narrative Illustration from Brighton. Cressida loves illustrating her own work, but also loves writing books for other people to illustrate as the end result can be so unexpected and inspiring. Cressida has written and illustrated eight books in the popular Hiccup series. The unique blend of child centred humour and sublime prose made Hiccup an instant hit. How to Train Your Dragon is now published in over 30 languages. A DreamWorks Animation feature film is out in March 2010. Also the author of picture books, Cressida has won the Nestle Children's Book Prize 2006 and has been shortlisted for many others. Cressida lives in Hammersmith with her husband and three children. This was just as good as the first time I read it! Maybe even a little more so because I knew how the story would end and knew exactly what to look for. How to Train Your Dragon is a delightful narrative caper... It offers a challenging read to 11-year-olds, and rewards reading aloud, especially for those who relish an element of theatre at story time. - Sunday Herald, Glasgow Hiccup's best friend Fishlegs thinks he has a nasty cold, but Old Wrinkly has diagnosed . . . I am truly greatefull to Mrs Cressida Cowell, an amazing writer, for sharring her increadable imagination with us in such an inspiering and fun way. Keep an ideas notebook so you can scribble down ideas and drawings. This doesn’t need to be neat, and no one should be correcting it for spelling, because spelling doesn’t matter. I kept an sketchbook for The Wizards of Once for about 5 years.https://www.estories.com/audiobook/70571/Cressida-Cowell/How-to-Train-Your-Dragon-How-to-Cheat-a-Dragons-Curse Access-restricted-item true Addeddate 2012-09-05 14:12:10 Boxid IA1109601 Camera Canon EOS 5D Mark II City New York Donor All in all, this is an amazing story and audiobook and I would reccomend it to anyone who likes to escape and get lost into a fantasy world, kids and adults alike. My top writing tip would be to read lots, to give you a feel for the way different stories can be told. Also practise writing as much as you can – write, and re-write – don’t worry if you don’t finish a story, as long as you are practising, that’s what matters. Also don’t worry if your stories aren’t very long: I didn’t start out writing books as long as the ones I write now. How to Train Your Dragon has now been published in over thirty languages. Film rights were sold to DreamWorks Animation in 2003 for a substantial sum and the filmed version was released into cinemas in March 2010. The 3D animated film from the studio that created Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda, was directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois (the directors of Lilo and Stich) and produced by Bonnie Arnold (who produced Toy Story).
