About this deal

Thankfully, Dell includes a wireless keyboard and mouse rather than a wired pair that clutters your desk. Both peripherals are white to match the rest of the system. The keyboard is compact and the optical mouse is ambidextrous; both are serviceable if no match for Logitech's or Microsoft's best.

The main benchmark of UL's PCMark 10 simulates a variety of real-world productivity and content-creation workflows to measure overall performance for office-centric tasks such as word processing, spreadsheeting, web browsing, and videoconferencing. We also run PCMark 10's Full System Drive test to assess the load time and throughput of the boot drive.

Of course, buying a highly integrated system like this is more exacting than your average desktop. Why? You're buying a computer and a monitor in one, and the inherent limits on what you'll be able to upgrade down the line make smart buying upfront crucial. Indeed, landing the right AIO is more like shopping for a laptop than a desktop. The next time you're online and thinking that you really need a bigger screen than the one on your current laptop or tablet, take a look at an all-in-one desktop. You may be surprised how much screen, and how much power, they deliver for the money versus a like-priced laptop. Even though the Inspiron 27 7000 has discrete graphics, Nvidia's MX110 is not in the same class as a GeForce GTX- or RTX-class GPU like the one in the Surface Studio 2. Hard drive retention: Hard drive retention is not available on models with a soldered hard drive, including XPS 9315 2in1, Chromebooks or Venue tablets, except the Venue 11 Pro.

The Intel Core i7-1255U is a 10-core processor which, on paper, sounds great. Only two of those cores are Performance cores, however. The rest are Intel’s far slower Efficient cores, and this limits performance in demanding workloads. The Dell didn't enjoy as much of an advantage in our CPU and multimedia tests, though it routinely topped the Aspire and IdeaCentre. The Dell OptiPlex 5490 led the way largely because of its eight-core, 16-thread Core i7 desktop processor, while the 24-inch M1 iMac took top honors in the cross-platform HandBrake, Cinebench, and Geekbench tests. Graphics Tests Our Windows-only 3DMark and Unigine Superposition gaming simulations show what a difference a high-powered graphics processor makes when it comes to rendering sequences of highly detailed, gaming-style 3D graphics that emphasize particles and lighting. All Dell Inspiron 27 models have a 1080p display. The base model has a matte, non-touch screen, but the model I tested had a glossy touchscreen upgrade.

When looking at and comparing CPUs in AIO PCs, a key distinction to work out is whether the AIO uses a full-desktop CPU or a mobile one. All else being equal, a full-desktop chip is preferable. How to tell: Mobile chips from the likes of Intel will have "U," "Gx" (where "x" is a number), "H," or "HQ" appended to the end of the chip model number. A desktop CPU will have no letter at the end, or perhaps "K" or "T." (As mentioned, most desktop AIOs will use Intel chips, as opposed to ones from rival AMD.) (Credit: Joseph Maldonado)

If you're a casual, everyday user looking for an all-in-one desktop, you should be happy with this one. For those of you who may not make extensive use of the mobility, we'd still recommend it as an effective general-use AIO. For those who may want to move it around the house or office, it's painless to do so, and various family members can enjoy it for a range of tasks. Just note that the performance doesn't hit the higher end of some more potent AIOs, if that's what you need. Regardless, towers are still better than all-in-one PCs when you need to do intensive work like CAD/CAM or scientific data processing, and most of them are expandable in ways far beyond even the most upgrade-generous AIO on the market. PC gamers, especially, will get much more value out of a stand-alone tower in which they can swap out a graphics card than in a fixed-config AIO PC. Versatility is king when recommending a PC to all sorts of general users, and it doesn't get much more adaptable in the desktop space than the HP Envy Move. This all-in-one is designed to move around the home, with a lightweight design that includes a handle and self-deploying feet. It can be used in any room as needed with relative ease, thanks to the included keyboard with a built-in touchpad, and even an internal battery for a few hours off the charger. The Move includes a capable 13th Gen Intel processor, a bright 23.8-inch 1440p display, and a decent webcam, so as to not diminish its capacity as a normal desktop. The reasonable pricing helps, too. Who It's For

Dell Inspiron 24 5420 All-in-One

Terms Apply. Promotion ends 3 December 2023. Items are subject to availability. Max 5 units per customer. Dell includes a wireless keyboard and mouse with the Inspiron 27 that connects via a bundled wireless USB dongle. They work from the moment the dongle is plugged in and require no additional setup or installation. For our performance charts, we compared the Inspiron 27 All-in-One to another 27-inch AIO based on a previous-generation mobile Core i7, the Acer Aspire C27, as well as three 24-inch all-in-ones: the business-focused Dell OptiPlex 5490; the low-priced, AMD-powered Lenovo IdeaCentre AIO 3; and the M1-based Apple iMac. Accidental Damage-Additional Information: Accidental Damage Service excludes theft, loss, and damage due to fire, flood or other acts of nature, or intentional damage. Customer may be required to return damaged unit to Dell. Limit of 1 qualified incident per contract year. For more information, consumers visit Accidental Damage Service Contract (Consumer) or commercial customers visit Accidental Damage Service Contract (Commercial).

This handsome AIO is especially suited for conference calls, with a 16-megapixel magnetic webcam that can be placed anywhere around its frame for your most flattering angle. But, if you have the desk space (it's 32 inches side to side), it's an ideal option for any multitasking environment. The Yoga AIO is a newer beast, but this is still a worthy consideration. Music sounds impressive thanks to the speakers’ bass which, in turn, provides room for the upper and mid-range to express themselves without becoming muddled. Vocals and beats come through at once without one overwhelming the other. It’s hard to see how Dell could improve on this design, especially at this price. Every touch point is inviting, every panel durable, and every seam is slim or kept out of sight. Dell’s only serious competition is HP, which uses a similar design for its Pavilion All-in-One. The most obvious difference is the stand; Dell opts for wide, TV-style legs, while HP uses a traditional square monitor base. The bundled soundbar is loud and enjoyable At the bottom of the display is what appears to be a giant sound bar. Alas, it's just for show—the actual speakers are two tiny stereo tweeters that offer laptop-quality sound. They'll fill an average-size living room and work fine for Skype calls with the grandparents, but they offer very little bass for listening to music or watching movies. (It's enough to make you miss Dell's discontinued 10-speaker, window-rattling XPS 27.) Fortunately, external speakers can fill the void.

In my early career, I worked as an editor of scholarly science books, and as an editor of "Dummies"-style computer guidebooks for Brady Books (now, BradyGames). I'm a lifetime New Yorker, a graduate of New York University's journalism program, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. The Inspiron 27 performance has limits, though. This is not a good choice for content creators of any level of experience. It’s also a terrible choice for PC gaming. The 1080p display also fails to impress which, in turn, can make streaming video look dull and soft—especially when compared to a 4K TV or monitor.
