The cheapest radar detectors will be triggered by almost any radar signal, and with cars, buildings, and road monitoring systems all adding to the noise, they won't be much help when it comes to detecting an actual police radar gun. No detector is, but the performance it offers is very confidence inspiring and I’m liking the false alert filtering too. Once you get used to the controls on the Uniden R7 and R3, they are both straightforward to navigate. I actually had to throw away the first pass and rerun it with JBV1 so I could track the signal frequencies to discern which alert was coming from the radar gun.

This is not necessarily a deal-breaker, but you will most likely need to upgrade to a device that does in the future because MultaRadar devices are becoming increasingly popular. The Uniden R8 is Uniden’s current top-performing windshield mount radar detector and is currently the best performing detector on the market, bar none.

I occasionally use the voltage mode to check the health of my vehicles’ battery and alternator output. However, it didn't bother us as it is easy to remove from the window mount when not in use, and if placed low on the dash, it does not impede the driver's vision. To test the falsing potential, we did drive with the Gatso detection feature enabled and we did find it falsed occasionally to K-band collision avoidance systems of certain vehicles more so than it did with just MRCD/MRCT enabled.I always found it awkward to hit the mute button on the side of the R7, but with the R8 it feels like the mute button is in the perfect spot.
