First, it was meandering and long-winded trying to tie stories about evolution and human history to 'mastery'. And that was mostly nonsense and bad ugly speculation or fiction by the author. And totally unnecessary to whatever 'mastery' he is trying to sell. He does the same thing for historical figures who are known to be successful. For instance, somehow Marie Curie found her calling after spending time in a lab. Charles Darwin thought about the prospects of going on the Beagle and found his calling.
