Mumford, Gwilym (22 August 2017). "Gemma Arterton reveals studio filmed her exercising to make her lose weight for role". The Guardian . Retrieved 15 September 2017. Actors often find themselves in interview scenarios more than any other profession. How to engage one-on-one is just as vital to their career as the ability to hold the attention of hundreds onstage. But the skill-set remains the same; active listening, a body that is comfortable in its space and surroundings, a commanding supple voice as well as clarity in thought and diction. I’m thrilled to announce we are bringing Big Speeches to you! From the comfort of your home you can take our course that will boost your confidence and help you take your space in any room. As always we work with the breath, the body and the voice but we are also asking new questions… How can we be charismatic online? How do we build or restore confidence after these unprecedented times? How do we engage with people in space again without fear? Okay, I have a lot to say about this one! First of all I have now read quite a few non-fiction educational books about Feminism and I've got to say this has been one of my favourites. It is writen in a way which is accessible, entertaining and informative. Although I do feel as though I am fairly educated on feminism already I definitely learnt some things I didn't know already, and I don't feel like you need any kind of knowledge of Feminism to enjoy this book. Dolly Alderton, author of Everything I Know About Love Very funny, very clever, very thoughtful and very relevant

This really is the "everything you have always wanted to know about feminism but were afraid to ask" manual. From a mind as lucid and witty as it is kind and empathetic comes essential reading for the planet But fourteen years have passed since her mother’s disappearance, and now Jo is finally ready to let go of the past. Yet her future is in doubt. The State mandates that all women marry by the age of thirty – or enrol in a registry that allows them to be monitored, effectively forfeiting their autonomy. At twenty-eight, Jo is ambivalent about marriage. With her ability to control her life on the line, she feels as if she has her never understood her mother more. When she’s offered the opportunity to honour one last request from her mother’s will, Jo leaves her regular life to feel connected to her one last time. I have never listened to "The Guilty Feminist" podcast but after reading some of the interviews in the book and learning about Deborah Frances-White's life I will definitely give it a go!Another example could be, "I'm a Feminist but I pretend I can't do things so other men will do them for me". This was actually an example from my mum (Shout out to Emma for that one, she has a point I guess). This doesn't make her any less of a Feminist though, it just means she's lazy and wants my Dad to fix her car instead of doing it herself :P A thorough look at how to be a better feminist and a better person, but manages to be funny and entertaining too ... I really appreciate that it looks at what we can practically do to make things better Big Speeches uses the tools of actor training and the performer/audience relationship to increase your confidence, up your presentation game and access the charisma you possess to take your space in any room.

Women were deemed less important, their letters destroyed, their stories ignored. You turning up to a party in trainers or a kitten heel isn't going to make the world a safe, better-represented, more liberated place for women to live in. You could argue that your choices about heels, make-up, romcoms and career help to create an empowered headspace important for your feminist agenda.

An eloquent, entertaining read that does not shy away from serious issues including pornography and the gender pay gap I loved it though and should be mandatory reading for all/most feminists in the western world. It's also given me more confidence to get out there and take up space and not apologise and can the whole 'if it's okay, if you don't mind, I know you're busy' shit.
