About this deal

This deluxe two volume edition in a slipcase retells the labours of Hercules, the voyage of the Argonauts, Theseus and the minotaur, Midas and his golden touch, the Trojan War and Odysseus’s journey home. Robert Graves’s comprehensive retelling of the Greek myths has been regarded for over half a century as the definitive version. The first adventure in the Folio Society editions of ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ series, Enid Blyton’s The Enchanted Wood features Jonathan Burton’s enchanting illustrations and a new introduction by Michael Morpurgo.

All in all I wish the stories could have been more entertainingly told with some effort towards dialogue etc but that would mean the book would probably be 3000+ pages! It is plain that the Ionian Pelasgians of Athens were defeated by the Aeolians, and that Athene regained her sovereignty only by alliance with Zeus’s Achaeans, who later made her disown Poseidon’s paternity and admit herself reborn from Zeus’s head.My only issue was that this book really delves into family lines but didn’t have family tree diagrams to accompany this, leaving me sometimes confused as to who is who/ how someone is related.

A fascinating history of the creatures that populate myths and folklore, John Cherry’s Mythical Beasts is beautifully reimagined as a Folio edition illustrated with archive images and Neil Packer’s striking new motifs and binding design. A second way to use the book is to simply browse until you find a myth that interests you and spend some time reading about it and its variations. If you want to know your Greek mythology but don’t feel like learning ancient languages and reading all Classical writings, this is your next best thing to go to. Robert Graves “The Greek Myths” is a wonderful resource for learning about the myths of ancient Greece. The Legends of King Arthur was released in 2000, introduced by Richard Barber and featuring a number of different translations of the Arthurian legends. This volume is based on the Ring Legends of Scandinavia, including the Volsungs and the Eddas, and also the Ring Legends of Germany, such as The Nibelungenlied. This two volume set does cover Greek mythology but instead of a story like Homer’s Iliad these are the stories of where the Greek gods and deities came from.

The groundbreaking debut novel of Hugo Award-winning author Becky Chambers, one of the most imaginative voices in contemporary science fiction, is a truly galactic limited edition. The result is a fascinating introduction to the characters (gods and mortals) and tales that comprise some of literature’s most important foundational texts. The D’Aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths is a classic, beautifully illustrated, appropriate for children and well-written enough to be interesting even for adults. I always get confused about the entangled familial/sexual relationships, so about halfway through the names began to blur a bit. It also went on to highlight Robert Graves's extensive reading but McLeish was forced to acknowledge some weaknesses in Graves's scholarship. In all my years living near London/going into London, I have never visited the British Museum- this edition contained photos of relics from Ancient Greece depicting these myths and stories, available to be seen at the museum.

Myths and Legends of Russia released in 2009 is a highly sought after volume due to the particularly exquisite silhouette illustrations by Niroot Puttapipat. Editorial media includes use as a visual reference to support your article, story, critique or educational text. C. epoch, but I have to conclude that these myths, as Robert Graves tells them, were formed during a much earlier time when the Greeks were no more than tribal barbarians steeped in pagan practice that by today's standards of morality seem demonic. There were rooms leading to rooms leading to rooms, dark and musty rooms filled with the wonderful smell of old books.

Steampunk and whimsy meet technology and survival guide in this delightful blend of history, humour and how-to! It begins with the creation myths and the ascension of the Olumpians to the labors of Heracles and the Trojan War.
