Newton first began work on the Executioner series by co-writing "The Executioner's War Book" with Don Pendleton in 1977. From Art (both by and about serial killers) to Zeitgeist (how killers past and present embody their times). There are also lesser known serial killers, covering many countries around the world, so broad is the range. The entries include El Loco Luis Alfredo Garavito, Happy Face Killer Keith Hunter Jesperson, Interstate Killer Larry Eyler, Godfather of Matamoros Adolfo de Jesus Constanzo, Golden State Killer Joseph James DeAngelo, and approximately 350 others.

Still, if you want a detailed read on a specific case, you will need to get a book devoted to that killer.

This revision of the 1999 resource of the same title (released in paperback in 2000) builds on the first edition by adding new entries and black-and-white photos as well as updating the original content. Overall, a good "starters guide" to those interested in true crime and the phenomenon of serial killings.
