About this deal

I had a inkling as to what the twist was, but didn't have it fully figured out, and the author did a good job at keeping the tension high and then pulling it all together in a way that made sense at the end. When all was said and done. I found the story to be both heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. I really felt for the character of Katy and took to her from the start. She lives at home with her father, who she adores and her mother, who to start with sounds like a total nightmare. Nothing Katy can say or do makes her mother happy and her mother snipes at her constantly. As a way of escapism, Katy watches the comings and goings of the woman across the street called Gloria. A lot of strange (I don’t mean strange as in they look odd more strange as in never seen in the area before) women seem to come and go from the house. Despite her mother’s sniping and opinionated rants, Katy likes Gloria and has sort of bonded with her. Gloria ran a dress shop, which Katy frequented and they would regularly chat. Katy is understandably horrified when Gloria is murdered and she can’t even begin to comprehend who could do something so evil. As you might imagine her mother thinks otherwise. Katy’s world is turned upside down when her beloved father is arrested and she strives to prove his innocence and hopefully find out the true culprit. Is her father innocent? Who did set the fire? Will Katy’s mother change her ways? Well for the answers to those questions and more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out because I am not going to tell you. Twenty-three-year-old Katy Speed is fascinated by glamorous Gloria and the goings-on at her house over the road. My only issue with this book was that I felt we found out far too early who the culprit was and once that was the case, although awful things occur and there was a sense of desperation to solve things before it was too late, I just felt the reveal came too early and there wasn't really any place to go with the story once this had happened and some of the later parts felt ever so slightly flat. I would have loved a few more twists and turns and going down various paths to find the culprit only to reach dead ends and they had to start all over again. In one way I understand why the reveal was early as it set up different storylines and showcased an even different side to Katy's nature. At one point I did think would she really have talked and acted this way around a certain character that makes themselves known? But on the other hand I do strongly think an even greater level of tension would have existed if the identity and reasons would have remained a mystery for even longer. It’s only natural for viewers to feel a certain amount of empathy for the main character, but Claudia’s obsession with Emily’s disappearance does add another chilling element to this already dark tale… Who’s in The House Across the Street cast?

I was going to rate it 2 stars but the twist was unexpected and I feel I have to admit it: Nicole Trope is strong in the manipulation game. Still, I don’t think this deserves the four stars. For me, the revelation moment wasn’t a jaw-dropping one, and it took me a moment to understand what I was reading, and what that meant to the story, especially considering everything that had happened so far. Worst of all, for me anyway, the dialogue was cringe-worthy. At times I actually felt like an 11 year old had written it. I appreciate this is set in the sixties, but I’m still fairly certain people had conversations like human beings, even so many, many decades ago! With that being said, I did enjoy this domestic thriller. I probably would have rated this book higher but I felt that there was a bit of redundancy with two of the characters, Gladys and Logan.Determined to prove his innocence, Katy sets out to uncover the truth about the mysterious house across the street and find the real murderer. The lonely primary school nurse is recovering from double mastectomy, while struggling to maintain a meaningful relationship with her 12-year-old son. Then, when local girl Emily Winter goes missing, Claudia becomes fixated with the case, but her personal mission for the truth soon gets out of hand.

She opened her arms and I showed her the gun. I could have made a different choice. I could have stepped into those arms and changed my life.” But it’s not too bad. Netflix parodied this sort of thing in The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, and they can never be taken too seriously, but this one has a pleasingly off-kilter tone. No character behaves quite as you’d expect them to in a situation such as this, which involves a schoolgirl who disappears from a playground near her home. The rest of the opener is a scene-by-scene precis of all that it aims to send up. Anna is falling apart. She drinks bottle after bottle of red wine, without ever appearing to be anything other than sober, bright-eyed and white-toothed. She’s addicted to pills. She hears bumps in the attic and spends most of her time obsessing over the handsome stranger and his nine-year-old daughter who have moved into the house across the street. It’s all so tonally flat that intentionally awful lines such as “There’s so many layers to casseroles. Just like there are so many layers to a person”, end up just being awful. I liked the simplicity in the writing as it really captured the sleepy town that had found itself intwined in this domestic moving drama.

Claudia finds herself obsessed with the investigation, even organizing a vigil, raising money for the girl’s parents, Owen and Sabine, and helping Owen get home when she finds him drunk and in despair. Likeable teacher George is new to the area, but becomes friends with Claudia when he starts tutoring her troubled son, Rhys. But he soon becomes concerned about Claudia’s odd obsession with the Emily Winter case, especially when she begins to question his innocence. On December 8, 2021, the series was given a premiere date of January 28, 2022, and a new title: The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window. [40] Bell revealed that she defended the title when Netflix wanted to shorten it. [10] [41] After it released, it topped on Netflix in the US, between January 30 and February 3. [42] [43] Reception [ edit ] I feel like this book was very repetitive and went on for far too long. Gladys and Lou really wound me up. I just couldn’t believe what I was reading at times. They frustrated me to death!

Shirley says: " It’s the human condition to be curious. People are interested in the sad and the bad things that happen in life. But the thing about our story is that Claudia goes to extremes – she goes to a point where her interested could be dangerous!" Maas, Jennifer (October 20, 2020). There are just four episodes in The House Across the Street, mirroring the amount seen in recent BBC hits Inside Man and The Capture season 2. Whilst this might not sound like a lot, there’s plenty of time to build up suspicion as Claudia’s investigation journeys towards what looks set to be an emotional conclusion. What follows is Katy's search for the truth. So many questions that need answering, justice needs to be serviced before an innocent man has his good reputation destroyed. What infuriated me was that Hilda wasn't as gung ho like Katy in seeking the truth. She came up with implausible reasons why her husband could have done it and it was just silly, surely you are meant to stand by the man you love? Katy showed the kind, caring and loving side to her. I loved how she never ever gave up in her quest no matter how difficult and dangerous the path she delved down became. Things took on a dark and sinister turn as she discovered the real reason Gloria had so many women coming to her house and I think it was brilliant to see this topic being dealt with in this book as at the time it was kept a very much dark secret and a When she hears about a local girl, Emily Winter, who has gone missing she seizes her opportunity to become a hero and make some friends. Soon Claudia becomes embroiled in the case and grows fixated on uncovering the truth. But not only is she determined to find out what happened to Emily, she's also becoming obsessed with the Winter family at the center of the case — Emily’s devastated father Owen, her cold mother Sabine, and her 12-year-old brother, Dean.Huff, Lauren (January 31, 2022). Nicole Trope went to university to study Law but realised the error of her ways when she did very badly on her first law essay because-as her professor pointed out- ‘It’s not meant to be a story.’ She studied teaching instead and used her holidays to work on her writing career and complete a Masters’ degree in Children’s Literature. After the birth of her first child she stayed home full time to write and raise children, renovate houses and build a business with her husband. Khosla, Proma (January 28, 2022). The story is interspersed with feelings from the man holding Katherine and her two children at gun point. He is going to kill her and will not spare the children, if need be, but it is clear he is harbouring a lot of pain and hurt and believes it may be necessary “…. to blow up everything around you just to prove you’ve been hurt”, because one day you "... realise that the love of your life no longer thinks you’re the love of her life" but really this man is a resentful rage machine and he is prepared to punish her.
