7: Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band Live/1975-85 (1986)

Baby boomers who remember its earth-shattering arrival will tell you Sgt. Pepper is The Beatles' best album. Pop purists favor the perfection of Revolver, or even Rubber Soul. But most hardcore fans agree that “The White Album,” while perhaps too sprawling and messy and weird to qualify as the Fab Four's “best,” is their favorite. And wherever you think it ranks in The Beatles' catalog, it's hard to argue that any band before or since has released a double album as wildly creative or as endlessly fascinating.

He released the set without even bothering with a single to precede it, preferring fans to hear it as a whole entity – an archetypically progtastic move”: Prince’s Around The World In A Day

49: Humble Pie: Performance: Rockin’ The Fillmore (1971)

Band of Gypsys was recorded on January 1, 1970, at the Filmore East in New York City, and captures Jimi Hendrix at his mesmerizing, innovative best. The guitarist singer, who died eight months later at just 27, was supported by new ensemble Band of Gypsys, which comprised Billy Cox on bass and Buddy Miles on drums. Hendrix was always a unique live performer – this is the man who famously burned his guitar at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival – and he showed off his thrilling, extravagant guitar skills in some gorgeous solos. The album, released by Capitol, is a bluesy, psychedelic no holds‐barred triumph, which also showcases Hendrix’s skills as a composer, in tunes such as “Who Knows” and “Power to Love.” 33: Duke Ellington: Ellington at Newport (1956) Offiziellecharts.de – The Who – Tommy" (in German). Tommy was originally released as a two- LP set with artwork designed by Mike McInnerney, which included a booklet including lyrics and images to illustrate parts of the story. Townshend asked McInnerney to do the cover artwork for Tommy in September 1968. [76] Townshend had originally considered Alan Aldridge for the cover. [76] The cover is presented as part of a triptych-style fold-out cover, and the booklet contained abstract artwork that outlined the story. [3] Although the album included lyrics to all the songs, indicating individual characters, it did not outline the plot, which led to a concert programme being prepared for shows, that carried a detailed synopsis. [3] It was only within the last 5 years i did a shoot out between the original pressing with the Classic Records press and the UK original just beats it Hands Down, if you have good hearing, then trust me you will hear the difference. Townshend now considers Quadrophenia to be the last great album that the Who recorded. In 2011, he said the group "never recorded anything that was so ambitious or audacious again", and implied that it was the last album to feature good playing by Keith Moon.
