About this deal

You want a shoe that has plenty of rubber traction in the forefoot and the heel. Basically, the more rubber underfoot, the greater your sole traction will be. The forefoot of the Nano X3 felt a bit firm. Our HA durometer in the lab revealed that the forefoot has a firmness score of 27.6, which is a notch higher than the 26.6 average. The setup gave us more speed and control, pretty much what we needed when executing many HIIT exercises. It's a lightweight shoe, coming in at 240g (8.4oz) for men and 200g (7.05.oz) for women, but still maintains a fair bit of cushioning on the outsole – good for high impact training like jumping around or short sprints on the treadmill.

And even when we went pretty hard on our HIIT workouts, the shoe never got uncomfortably hot. That's because of its outstanding breathability, which scored a perfect 5 out of 5 in our lab test. The smoke we pumped into the shoe simply passes through the upper as if it weren't there. Pros: Durable. Offers excellent stability for weigh-lifting. Versatile shoe that can handle a variety of exercises, making it a good option for those who like to mix up their training routine. The HIIT 2’s bootie construction does not stretch which I discussed in the cons sections above. You can even see the difference in material features in the image below. The right model, the HIIT 2’s bootie feature virtually no elastic components. Compared to the Reebok HIIT TR, I do think the Reebok HIIT 2 takes a slight edge for performance, but there is one con to note with this shoe.

Takeaway Thoughts

The final pro that comes along with the Reebok HIIT TR is its overall lightweight construction. I thought Reebok did a good job at blending all of the materials in this model into a nice seamless lightweight build. It makes this shoe a joy to wear for agility training, HIIT workouts, and other versatile training where you want a lightweight shoe to accommodate performance. Reebok HIIT TR Cons Most shoe manufacturers do not have a separate HIIT shoe category. But they will have a cross-training shoe category. Cross-training shoes are designed to meet that middle ground between a weight training shoe and a running shoe to meet the versatile needs of the average gymgoer. There are multiple pros to like about the Reebok HIIT 2 with both its construction and performance. Below are my favorite things about the Reebok HIIT 2.

On a daily wear basis, this model works well and is overall pretty comfortable. This shoe reminds me a lot of the Reebok Nano X1’s feel for daily wear, but I would actually grab this model over the X1 because it does have a slight edge for being a bit plusher comparatively speaking. Plus, the price point makes this a good shoe for beating up as a daily driver.

If your HIIT workout involves jumping to the sides, such as when doing lateral jumping lunges, the traction of your sole is going to determine whether you perform the action fluidly or whether you end up sliding, and potentially twisting an ankle. Personally, I like this for HIIT training because we don’t always want a super plush shoe for this style of training especially when doing plyometrics and other bounding activities. Whether you’re doing lateral jumps, box jumps, or ballistic movements, this model’s midsole provides enough support without losing its stability edge.

The one-piece upper is durable, breathable and flexible for ease of movement no matter what your workout is, and since the material is abrasion resistant it should stand the test of time.In the lab, we learned that the Free Metcon 5 has a heel-to-toe drop of 6.4 mm. This figure is well within the 4 mm to 8 mm range, which covers all measurements that we deem most suitable for HIIT and other workout regimens that rely on the intensity and versatility of exercises. The technology that sits within the Cloud X is identical to the other models that fall under the iconic On umbrella. Although it is still classed as a running shoe, we've found its real strength lies in general training, covering everything from gym workouts to HIIT, CrossFit and shorter runs. An all-round gym shoe is a great option if you only want one pair and never know what your workouts might look like – but, if you're really serious about a specific type of training, you may want to invest in something a bit more focused.
