About this deal

My Thoughts: This was a cute love story. This follows an enemies to lovers trope, probably my favorite. Former high school sweethearts have to face off against each other in a series of articles in a romance column. They each come up with ten things for the other to do. The challenge is simple: Lana will learn how to love herself and not be in a relationship; while Seth will learn how to be in a committed relationship. Some are joint ventures, while others are single ventures. In the process of this, will they be able to tolerate each other, or kill each other? I would recommend this book to others. This book was full of great characters, a lot of laughs, some swoon-worthy moments, and some moments that touched my heart. I will definitely be reading more of this talented author’s work in the future. There are certainly many bad fonts out there. Garfield offers a list of the ten worst fonts in the world. With the explosive growth in the number of such creatures, I imagine this is a list that will be a challenge to maintain. I enjoy a good ole competition and we get one when their boss pits them against each other at the newspaper they both work at. And that’s not all! Her ex Seth sends her a message via social media accounts telling her they should talk. He’s a popular journalist, traveling around the world, running away from long term commitment as avoiding plague.

Mark Hastings aka Stings is a famous Rugby player in South Africa. Hayley is a wedding photographer. Years ago, there was a misunderstanding and Mark brought a date to his blind date with Hayley. She could not look at or talk to him since. But when a party with mutual friends happens, they are thrown together again and Mark looks at her in a fresh way. Despite their history and his womanizing reputation, all is not what it seems. Just My Type is a book of stories about fonts. It examines how Helvetica and Comic Sans took over the world. It explains why we are still influenced by type choices made more than 500 years ago, and why the T in the Beatles logo is longer than the other letters. It profiles the great originators of type, from Baskerville to Zapf, as well as people like Neville Brody who threw out the rulebook. The book is about that pivotal moment when fonts left the world of Letraset and were loaded onto computers, and typefaces became something we realized we all have an opinion about. And beyond all this, the book reveals what may be the very best and worst fonts in the world – and what your choice of font says about you. pls recommend me romance novels that nail their world-building niches rather than half-assing them (IF THAT…) to spruce up their get-together concepts. Though what really makes the book so great is Lana and Seth. Lana is a neurotic pop culture geek who loves all things books and movies, and Seth is refreshingly stable. He’s smart, steadfast, and a perfect foil to Lana’s zaniness. Their chemistry is palpable. He’s extremely knowledgeable about type history while ignoring the politics and egos… The tone is often funny and always entertaining… thoroughly enjoyable. – Steven Heller, FT

This is the first book I have ready by Sophia Karlson. I am giving it four stars because I felt it was slow at times, but I would definitely read this Author again. and the Guardian. Beyond this, his work is on almost every computer in the world, and on perhaps half the western world’s advertising. On the other hand, historian of typography Paul Shaw, in a review of the US edition, while admitting the book is "full of fascinating stories and trivia about type" stated that "[u]nfortunately, many of these stories are incomplete or superficial and the trivia often more odd than informative". He goes on to list in detail numerous errors in the book. [5]

My absolute favorite item in the book has to do with a spoof published in The Guardian on April Fool’s Day in 1977, to mark the 10th anniversary of the Indian Ocean nationhood of San Serriffe. And no, it was not leaked by a twenty-something intelligence worker.I thought their romance was nice and while I'm normally not a fan of relationship struggles due to miscommunication, it made sense in the context of this story. Mark and Hayley are two very likeable characters that I rooted for their relationship from their first scene together. Equipped with both knowledge and a nimble way with words, Garfield is an entertaining and congenial guide to this ubiquitous but little-known world. – Jeremy Lewis, Literary Review Because feelings are hurt and hearts break over the course of this supposed friendly competition. And the aftermath isn’t pretty. But it's a romance novel, after all. Fans of the genre, we crave the angst.

Thank you so much to Putnam Books for providing a free digital arc in exchange for an honest review. It was a privilege to read for you! Punchy and entertaining overview of typography… Garfield’s intriguing book can send you online to look more deeply, typographically speaking into the character issue. – Liam Stebbing, Irish Times Vanessa is a journalist who has the opportunity to be promoted. Amber, her friend convinces her to go away for the weekend to her parent's Inn in Washinton. While she is there, they ran into Martin, a mystery writer who has been publishing books but who has not given any interviews for five years due to a bad experience. Here enter Vanessa, who will do the impossible to get the interview and therefore the promotion. In exchange, Martin asks her to help with the Founders Day event the city is planning.Falon Ballard is so wonderful at character development and making all of her characters come to life. I felt that way about her debut, Lease on Love, but feel like she absolutely nailed it in this follow up. She’s also great at writing such fun supporting characters and friends circles you wish you could be a part of. The amazing thing about typography is that you can go your whole life never thinking about it (or so I’ve heard) yet once you begin to study it, you discover a vein of material so rich enough to mine for a lifetime. Typography is about the way we form language into pictures. It is where the literary and visual arts rub together and make sparks. And those sparks are visible to anyone who wants to see them. I was pulled right into this story and enjoyed the competition between Lana and Seth. The competition was not realistic, however, the author did an excellent job of convincing me it was realistic by making the boss, Natasha, an ambitious woman, and Lana a people pleaser. Otherwise, I don’t think a sane employee would enter into such a competition. Second chance, enemies to lovers, childhood friends, workplace nemesis, slow burn. So many tropes and it’s all executed to perfection 👌🏻 Lana Parker likes to be in a relationship, even when it’s not a true love match. As soon as one relationship ends, she jumps right into a new one. Now, she’s single again and she wants to stay that way for a while.

They were surrounded by a neat cast of side characters. I really enjoyed/adored the supportive and protective friendship Hayley had with her best friend Katie and Mark had with Candy. Then Lana’s ex-boyfriend from High School shows up at Lana’s work as a temporary employee on assignment. They had split up on bad terms and the last person Lana wants to see is Seth. Seth has spent the last few years flying around the world doing freelance journalism and is hoping to land a more permanent position at a Los Angeles newspaper. His assignment at Lala’s Web Magazine office called Always Take Fountain is a stepping stone to a job at the LA newspaper. But, Natasha, the boss, has decided to make both of them compete for the plum journalist position at the newspaper. The competition is for Lana to stay single and Seth needs to find one woman to settle down with. The plot of the story was interesting. Kind of an HR nightmare, but interesting. The protagonist was a flawed woman who experienced genuine character growth. I was rooting for her. Brilliant… Whether you’re a graphics geek or have never given a second thought to what you’re reading, don’t miss this quirky, fact-filled font fest. – Lauren Laverne, Grazia Mark is such an intriguing hero and the more we get to know him the more endearing he becomes. I loved the way Sophia Karlson slowly revealed his personality and showed how appearances can be so deceiving in the world of internet.
