About this deal

Metal corner beads are made of galvanized metal, which is simply metal with a protective coating of zinc. Vinyl corner bead can be the best option for many projects. Sometimes called plastic corner bead, vinyl makes a great cost-effective choice for many project types. With only a few drywall tools, vinyl bead can be installed with ease. If the corner bead is significantly damaged, you might need to replace it, but if it’s just a few dents and scratches, you can likely fix it with a bit of filling and sanding. Step 2: Remove the damaged portion

This protective coating makes them resistant to rust, and in general, metal corner beads can stand up to minor to moderate wear and tear.Prime the area, wait for the primer to dry, then apply a layer of paint. A second coat may be required to achieve a uniform look. How much does drywall repair cost? Place the new corner bead against the corner of the drywall, making sure it’s straight using a level. Use either nails or drywall screws (screws typically have better holding power) to secure the bead, spacing them about 10 inches apart. The short edge of the L-bead goes in between the drywall and the neighboring material, while the other edge is finished with joint compound. Inside corner bead also comes specialized for the particular drywall style you’re using. Off angles, inside corners, wide corners…they each have their own specialized type of bead.

Paper tape is made of specially-treated paper, while the inside corner bead is usually plastic. With paper, you might have some fiberglass to help bolster the structure, but it’s basically still ol’ fashioned tape. Corner bead, on the other hand, is a slightly bendable form of plastic that is usually adhered with the use of a specialty adhesive. Of course, if you’re working on an arch, you’ll want to use archway corner beads. Other specific applications may require you to choose an L-bead or J-bead. Tape-on metal corner bead is another very good option. It comes as metal corner bead wrapped with paper drywall tape. The paper tape, extends about 1-½ inches past the metal on both sides. This type of corner bead is applied similar to the way you tape drywall seams. Mud is applied to the drywall and the tape is pressed into the drywall mud. Once it is smoothed out, the drywall mud glues it firmly to the corners. Step 2 - Make sure it is Straight! Drywall tear away bead is an edge protection product used to finish a drywall edge. The main quality of this product is its flat tear-away edge, which makes it easy to install and remove. Paper tape is less rigid than inside corner bead. Corner bead kits are designed to stay rigid, which is part of the reason why they tend to be better suited for complex works. Paper tape can be a little more malleable, which can be both a good thing and a bad thing, depending on what kind of joint you’re trying to make. It’s important to clean the area to remove any dust or debris, as this will negatively affect the finish. Take a slightly damp cloth and gently clean the area and surrounding wall. Step 10: Prime and paint the area For this reason, drywall installers typically leave quarter-inch gaps every 30 feet or so on large walls with lots of surface area, and expansion joints are embedded in these gaps. Start by pressing a strip of drywall tape into the corner, covering it completely, and extending the tape around either side of the bead about half an inch. Vinyl corner beads are the plastic version of the traditional metal corner bead, and they come in many sizes, styles, and shapes.
