About this deal

Just like disposables, It renders skin beautifully, and the softness makes people’s skin look it’s best!

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV is an inexpensive, entry-level camera with monochrome options. Photo credit: Andy Westlake A fantastic gift for a new film photographer to learn the basics of analogue photography, composition and exposure. Taking film photographs can be a long, and daunting process for many users. Pull out your light meter, change the settings, compose, manually focus, then take the shot. But this one is so simple. Point, shoot, profitWhile the disposable camera market is dominated by C-41 color film, there are a few options out there for those who prefer the monochrome aesthetic. One of them stands out above the rest: the Kodak Tri-X 400 Single Use Flash Camera. The camera is a fab little machine: a fast shutter (1/120s) and a mid-range aperture (f/10) means that most subjects from 1m-infinity will be in focus from the wide-angle (31mm) lens. We have a range of film developers suitable for tank processing including: 3 powder developers (ID-11, MICROPHEN and PERCEPTOL) and 5 liquid developers (ILFOTEC DD-X, ILFOSOL 3, ILFOTEC LC29, ILFOTEC HC, and PHENISOL). This camera is not able to make double exposures via a setting. Instead, you’ll have to set them up manually.

There are better disposable cameras out there, but unless you want to shell out quite a bit more money for modest improvements that may ultimately make no difference at all, the Agfa Le Box 400 is the way to go. Best Disposable Camera for a Unique Look: Lomography Lomochrome Purple Simple Use With the chemical solutions all made up to their correct working dilutions and volumes, a timer at the ready, the loaded film can now be processed. Fit the sealing cap and turn the tank upside down four times during the first 10 seconds and again for 10 seconds (that is four inversions) at the start of every further minute to agitate the developer. Each time you invert the tank tap it on the bench to dislodge any air bubbles which may have formed on the film. Count the negatives: a 36-exposure film may give 37 or 38 pictures. The best way to store them is in filing sheets which take six or seven strips of six negatives, so try to cut them up in this way. (You may be able to drop a blank shot or bad exposure to do this.) Date and label the filing sheet straight away, and they are ready for making prints.

At a Glance

When you’re out on a walk or hanging out with friends, this is the camera that’ll let you get the photos you want without interrupting. I capture more laughs, cheeky portraits, and street photos with this camera than any other. And that’s just because of how simple it is.

There is strong distortion closer to the edges of the lens. The edges also lose sharpness and exhibits some vignetting. That just means you have to place the subject in the center of the frame, and use the vignetting to draw attention inwards. If you’re a pixel peeper, the Harman Reusable Camera doesn’t have good image quality. But that’s actually my girlfriend’s favorite features about this camera. If 28mm is too wide for you, then consider also the Ricoh GR IIIx. It’s essentially an identical camera that has a 40mm equivalent lens. You can read our full, in-depth review to learn more about it. One thing to be aware of is that the GR III has no viewfinder, and also no means of attaching one. You have to be comfortable composing with the rear screen. Also, as we mentioned in our review, its autofocus can sometimes hunt in low light. An awkward attempt at double exposure. This was done by accidentally re-running the same roll through the Harman Reusable Camera. Unwind the film out of the grooves of the spiral and remove any excess water by carefully running squeegee tongs or a clean piece of chamois cloth down the length of the film. (Take care as any grit caught up here will scratch the whole film). Disposable cameras are a ton of fun, but they’re expensive and extremely wasteful. This camera has exactly the same look and feel, but with the ability to change film and try something new. It’s fantastic for both people who know a lot about photography, and those who know nothing at all. I have no problem giving it to strangers to take my cheesy vacation photo, because it’s not worth anything and the photo will inevitably turn out.
