About this deal

Although great detail of the horrific injuries James sustained are spared the abuse and damage is discussed throughout. The pathologist spent 33 minutes outlining the injuries sustained by Bulger; many of those to his legs had been inflicted after he was stripped from the waist down.

In a psychiatric report prepared in 2000 before Venables's release, he was described as posing a "trivial" risk to the public and unlikely to reoffend. Grainy images from a security camera showed him trustingly holding the hand of ten-year-old Jon VenableThe boys went on a 2 + 1⁄ 2-mile (4-kilometre) walk across Liverpool; they were seen by around 38 people, but most bystanders did nothing to intervene. Inspector Ray Simpson of Merseyside Police commented: "If you are going to link this murder to a film, you might as well link it to The Railway Children. However, in 2017 he was arrested again for possessing child abuse images, and sentenced to 40 months behind bars in February 2018. In 2008, a new probation officer said that he spent "a great deal of leisure time" playing video games and on the Internet.

While this is a interesting stance to take, and i particularly enjoyed his reasoning behind why the crimes where committed, i found there to be a bias towards them. The final chapters were not needed in my opinion, it made me feel like the author was sympathetic to the two boys who murdered James, due to their own age, upbringing etc.

One of those books, where you have to remind yourself to rate the book according to its quality and not the opinions of the author. However, Bobby and Jon walked him around town, down by the river and they ended up on the railroad tracks behind the police station. When Venables was let out on parole, his psychiatrist, Susan Bailey, reported that "visiting and revisiting the issue with Jon as a child, and now as an adolescent, he gives no account of any sexual element to the offence. I feel awful for the witnesses that had passed the boys in the street and of course James’ mother - we have all had those moments where we have dropped our little ones hand .

If you're newer to the case than I am, David James Smith will do a great job of bringing you up to speed on it. I also looked for a reference to a study mentioned in the conclusion relating to childhood crimes and media influence but unfortunately there was no mention of a reference. According to BBC legal correspondent Clive Coleman, the purpose of the prosecution was to ensure that the public was aware that Internet users were also subject to the law of contempt. It is so hard to rate books based on facts, especially when those facts are based around an appalling death. Thirty-eight people saw the three boys together, but most did nothing to intervene, or left after Thompson and Venables claimed they were all brothers.Venables later described how Bulger seemed to like him, holding his hand and allowing him to pick him up on the meandering journey to the scene of his murder.

Smith then describes the escalating violence against James and it’s at this point that the question of intention arises. Police suspected that the boys had sexually assaulted Bulger, as his shoes, socks, trousers, and underpants had been removed. On 7 March, media reports said that he had been accused of offences related to possession of child sexual abuse material.
